Obsolete: NYC Housing

If anyone knows of a great pet friendly place that's available, wants to sublet their apartment, or wants to consider a house swap in Silicon Valley (sunny California is beautiful) let me know.

Looking for mid April. This is a shot in the dark, but figured it was worth a try.

Assuming that you're actually moving here, not just here for a visit: No specific suggestions, but come about 2-3 weeks before your expected move and scour CL. Be sure to start your conversation with brokers by mentioning your pets and repeat frequently. You don't need to be tied to a specific broker, remember they represent the landlord. You may be more likely to find a pet friendly place if you look in Queens/Jersey/BK. If you're willing to pay a bit more, there are lots of new towers in downtown BK and some are pet friendly.

If you're just coming for a visit look for sublets on CL, there are often lots. No one will rent to you without meeting you in person though.

How much of a commute can you deal with? Have you thought about maybe something like Beacon, NY, an hour and 10 minutes to Grand Central on the Hudson Line of Metro North? Beacon is a great small city...still has that funky old Hudson River town working class feel--but starting to be a little more gentrified and artsy...but not too much. Should be easier to rent something there than in Manhattan or the boroughs. There are great walking trails along the Hudson...a lot to see up the mid-Hudson valley...but you can get back and forth to NYC.
