Kiwis: Have stuff to sell/swap in NZ? (all sorts)
« on: May 26, 2014, 11:33:03 PM »
This is a bit random but I'll throw it out there:

I have too many books and women's (small) clothes. Maybe some men's clothes too. Possibly other bits and pieces. I've been thinking about listing stuff on TradeMe but I would rather trade directly with people, give stuff to friends, etc, and I don't know that a lot of my stuff will necessarily be lucrative. (Kind of a motley mix.)
Anyone else in NZ have stuff they want to swap/ sell cheaply?  Any ideas on how to organize or approach this better?
I am pretty partial to kitchen stuff myself, but also need some general furniture. (Kitchen table, couch, barstools, bed...)

I'm in the Auckland area BTW.

Edited to add: I'm also in the market for a pushbike if anyone has one!

Ohhhh, awesome question.  Much as Trademe is great, it's kind of strangled the other options for offloading/buying/trading low value goods.  Have you tried Gumtree?  http://auckland.gumtree.co.nz/  It hasn't taken off in NZ yet, but there does seem to be a bit more of an active market for Aucklanders on there than for the rest of the country.

I am in the market for a Goretex women's jacket in case you happen to be offloading one of those... (just bought a bike on Trademe so now I need to upgrade my outdoor clothing so I can put my car into semi-retirement!)

For selling clothing, you could try Recycle Boutique, Tatty's or Encore, they take a cut, but I think you get more people looking and they can try them on, so probably get a bit more money. You are still relying on a third party, but it is an alternative to Trademe. For buying, Save-Mart, mainly clothing but they do have other stuff, general charity shops might have more kitchen things.

There are often local Facebook pages for listing Buy/Sell items, not as easy to navigate and search for items but is free to list.

Good to know. I have managed to hold on Facebook until now, so starting is pretty much out of the question.

Cheers, I might try a few of the nicer things at one of those.
I've yet to find any op shops that really tickle my fancy, but I haven't checked out any in the city yet. Will keep looking.
