Creative housing wanted in South Carolina
« on: July 13, 2020, 03:27:44 PM »
Fellow mustachians,

I figured I would expand my bandwidth by reaching out to the community. I am looking for a simple, creative housing setup in South Carolina. Somewhere between Columbia - Florence - Myrtle Beach triangle at the greatest distance and coming back towards the Charleston metroplex but outside the local area.

Everything I own fits in my Prius and I really just need a home base for mailing and an occasional couple days of week if I am in town. I work a couple different jobs (trying to become the renaissance man) and travel quite often. A bedroom, shed, basement, mother-in-law suite, barn conversion, RV parked in the yard type of setup. I aiming for $300 a month or less and would also be open to the occasional yard work, tasks around the house, etc to reduce the cost and make it mutually beneficial.

Before it gets suggested: I do need the primary residence for work purposes otherwise I wouldn't get a "real" place at all.

Any leads, please send my way!

Like you, I can fit all my essentials into my hatchback and drop the rest without flinching. Accordingly, I don't need a whole lot of space to be happy. Given my lifestyle, I have found the greatest success at finding room rentals on craigslist (https://columbia.craigslist.org/search/roo). There are MANY scammers, true, but I've managed to avoid them over the last three years and have found some great spaces in multiple states. Just use your mind when interacting with prospective landlords and you'll be fine. Ads in my area seeking labor for reduced rent are relatively commonplace; alas, working 12+/day already, I choose to pay more not to. Plus I have a garage and my own bathroom. Even with revolving housemates, I am blessed.

Good luck.

Might be helpful to list your state in the title.
