I stumbled on this book by Scott and Bethany Palmer while looking for "The 5 Love Languages" and am most of the way through it. While it did not evoke a major revelation from me it is making me think.
Basically everyone has two of the five "Money Personalities", a primary and a secondary one. The personalities are: Spender, Saver, Risk Taker, Security Seeker, and Flyer (you can take a quiz at
http://themoneycouple.com/money-personality-profile/). I assumed I'd be a saver/risk taker since a) I'm on MMM and b) I choose aggressive investments. But it turns out I'm a security seeker/saver. My "aggressive" investments are safe because I'm 28 and long term they are practically guaranteed to increase in value. I save so that money won't be a problem in the future (unless there's a catastrophe), I cut down our bills so that we don't need as much money to be financially secure.
DH is a flyer (which I think is a stupid title, but basically a free spirit) who doesn't think about money. He doesn't get the "high" from spending or saving but when he does decide that he wants to buy something he just goes out and buys it without considering the financial aspect at all. His secondary is security seeker but in a much shorter term frame of thinking than I am
I'm still trying to decide how to utilize this information to control our finances better but it's a new perspective to think about that I found interesting
