I'm just about through with the audio book. Scary stuff. We are doomed.

I don't think we have to be doomed, but huge changes are needed, in the same way that they are for climate change, plastics or food systems.

Do read the rest of his books, they are all good. I just finished Magic Pill about Ozempic.

I just read this one and Magic Pill in quick succession and I thought both were terrific.

Read his other one about addiction and the war on drugs - it's called Chasing the Scream. There is a lot to discuss after as it countered a lot of my beliefs after reading Empire of Pain and watching various things on the opioid epidemic.

I felt like this book was interesting to begin with but it lost me a little towards the end. I was hoping it would delve deeper into the potential answers for the issue and perhaps look into regulations or attitudes that have helped around the world. Chapters 9 and 11 got into this a bit but chapters 12 through 14 felt like add-ons. That said, I did enjoy some of the ideas the book presented and it has an extensive list of references to work through one day.

Since reading the book I've deleted the apps from my phone, though I still need to use Facebook for work on my laptop. I also leave my phone in a different room overnight. I might write about this all in a different post somewhere, but the effects have been fairly remarkable in my opinion. I am getting up earlier and using the time productively rather than spending an hour browsing social media and news websites in the morning. But I did go through what I would describe as withdrawal symptoms, including anxiety and a short period of depression.
