Quitting: A Life Strategy -- Julia Keller

The perfect badass book for members of this community and anyone shifting gears. If you struggle with OMY or are overwhelmed with "the quit", this is for you. Turns the conventional wisdom about perseverance on its head and illustrates how quitting is not a failed but a necessary step in moving forward. The book is chock full of exercises to help you take the leap.
.I FIREd five years ago, much to the surprise of those at work and was barraged with, 'I was surprised you quit without something else lined up " and probing questions about my plans from people I hardly knew. Wish I would have had this book.
I always said the world would be a better place if more people knew when to quit, and this reinforces it. The book isn't anti-perserverance but distinguishes between situations where quitting might be the best option. And not just paid jobs -- volunteer jobs, toxic friendships, hobbies... The list goes on. Once you understand the importance of your time (particularly when you have FIREd), you will become more protective of it (which this book reinforces). Constructive quitting will become a strategy you become more comfortable with. It has helped me resist the forces of busyness and workism in my retirement.

This is probably similar to a book I read in the late 1990s (and still have a copy of!) - The Quit, by Evan Harris.
From Amazon: "The Quit is a reflection on quitting as an art and a handbook for the potential quitter. With style and wit, Evan Harris liberates the quit, transforming it from vice to virtue."
It played a role in my decision to abandon my graduate degree.  It's been two decades, still no regrets, although when the topic comes up, I can see it still bothers other people.

As someone who's quit jobs without another lined up, I can say that it's a beautiful thing to the extent you can afford it.
