I have recently re read Arthur C Clarke’s book Profiles of the Future, after learning that Clarke had slightly changed the book after its first release in 1962. I had forgotten how excellent the book is, particularly Chapter 18, The Obsolescence of Man. Clarke admired hovercraft more than he should, but apart from that his ideas for the future were generally accurate. He did not attempt to predict specific gadgets, but thought that what was possible in principle would – eventually – come to pass.
I bought an e book version for about five dollars.
