Please Recommend Books for Doing Own Self-Employed Taxes
« on: August 06, 2013, 09:13:20 PM »
I have a regular job and do my taxes with TurboTax, but my partner is self-employed (professional corporation) and pays an accountant $1000/year. Her taxes are a bit more complicated than mine, but I am determined to figure it out. I am looking for recommendations on books to read on the topic. Thanks in advance!

What line of business is your partner in? That makes a big difference.

Also, what does the accountant do for her? Is she paying the $1000 all at once at tax time, or spread out over the year? Is she handing the accountant a big box of receipts or a nicely organized Quickbooks file?

You could always read the instructions and publications the IRS puts out. I would probably transpose the P&L onto a schedule C and tweak it a little for depreciation. Might have to read up on depreciation a little, but it's worth $1,000/year to learn it.
