Title: Go Wild
Post by: Murr on December 18, 2016, 07:10:54 PM
Just finished reading Go Wild by John Ratey and thought it was fantastic. Ratey is a Harvard Med School prof and writes on how to heal your mind/body by understanding our evolution as a species, whats in our dna, and what humans are meant to do. He breaks this down into sections like nutrition, exercise, mind, etc.
One of the biggest things I am taking from it is the need to exercise with lots of variety, specifically trail running. I exercise regularly but mostly in my basement with weights, riding my bike in town, etc. He goes into a lot of detail on why trail running with all of the variables it provides is more beneficial and feeds not only your body but also your mind.
Good read.......

For me, sometimes trail running is the only thing that gets me right sometimes. Other things to maybe check out include Born to Run, as recommended elsewhere, and Scott Jurek's Eat & Run, which comes complete with vegan trail food recipes.

Good stuff, appreciate the suggestions. I'll have to check them out as I've been reading at a furious pace the last few weeks.

Nice I hadn't heard of this book. I've read "Spark" by the same author and really loved it, so I'm going to add this to my list.

I agree with Born to Run and Eat & Run, both are very good books about running.

A fictional running story (if you're looking for more books on running) is Flanagan's Run by Tom McNab. It's about a fictional race across the US set during the Great Depression.

I'm going to recommend Katy Bowman to you. Sounds to be in a very similar vein.
