I feel like a DIY book would have to be tailored to the individual. For example, if I was to grab one I'd go for something involving wood or metal working. Other's might want to study how to use an Arduino microcontroller. Others might like knitting. People who want to learn home repair would be at odd with those who plan on renting for the foreseeable future.
I would love to get a new finance book though. I just started Liar's Poker at the recommendation of my future boss, but it seems to focus on the psychology of day trading and might not interest people who want to learn about more stable buy-and-hold practices.
How about a stock book more focused on Mustachian investing, like MMM's recommended "A Random Walk Down Wall Street" or "The Intelligent Asset Allocator."
Side Note: I would have participated in the November book discussion, but I'm still waiting for my hold at the library. It has said "In Transit" for about 2 weeks now...starting to wonder where it is shipping from :P Like others have said, I love the book club not only because it gets me to read something I may not already know about, but the nominations that don't win have turned into a sort of "To Read" list for me. It's good inspiration.
