mbz - Yes, it's spondilitis, which there was evidence of my having in my late 20's. I think it's like that for a % of folks, who end up not being diagnosed till as much as a decade later. I also have Rheumatoid, so all joints in my body from jaw to toe are affected.
But.. I can say with being on treatment, I'm still in pain everyday but am able to do everything that I need to do! I have some erosion already, however, the docs are hoping that aggressive disease modifying meds will stop that. I'm only in my mid-30's, first few years are very critical. So far, I don't know that she's said that i have fusion of my spine. But it's reallllly stiff all day, every day. And I have pain also down my arms and legs.
Are you on Methotrexate, by chance, for PA? If so, has it helped? I'm on max dose plus Humira, however, doc is discussing changing to infusion. We've run the course with everything from anti-biotic treatment to Prednisdone? (spelling) and of course, also did all of the holistic/homeopathic things, dietary changes (including full panel allergy, gluten and wheat free, eating vegan for nearly a year).. still have both of them!
Anyhow, yes.. every little bit counts. I think probably the greatest thing about it being a family affair with riding or walking together, is that it sets a positive standard for the children. And when they see that I'm willing do it (aches and pains included), they really think, 'well if mom is willing..' Hopefully, that will translate to their willingness to kick it 'old school' when they're adults and do the same. When my set of grandparents that lived in New York were growing up, they always used to talk about walking to church and then their daily walks for fresh bread and fruits/vegetables. I always wanted to live in a community where I could do that! :)d However, I also enjoyed living in the country also. Only, where we have lived is not bikeable/walkable, though one short term place we could actually walk to church just 3 doors down (that was pretty cool!)
okits - I agree!
