Just wanted to share a cute little story and to let you all know that Mustachianism and frugality does rub off on the little ones. We don't really talk finances with my four year old, except for explaining to her 1.) We don't have money for that or 2.) We could buy that toy, but then we'll have to spend one day less at the beach on holiday. This is in stark contrast as to her best friend (the daughter of my best friend) who is one year older. Although we don't condone their high spending, we do appreciate the two 30 gallon bags of free name brand hand me down clothing we get for our daughter every year.
Anyways, as we were pulling out of the driveway to go to Church Sunday morning, she says to me, "Papi, we only have one car."
"Yes, baby, we have only one car."
"Kenzie has many cars."
"Yes, she does."
"We have one car and Kenzie has three cars. . . . . Poor Kenzie."
"Why, poor Kenzie?"
"She doesn't have any plata (money) with so many cars!"
"No, she probably does not."
"Papi, I think her parents need to learn how to share. You and Mami share and I want to share your car too when I've big so we can have more plata."
So, the kids will pick it up. Not only do they pick up early money management, they learn good democratic values of sharing. Grow a mustache. Your kids will want one too!
