Toy Library
« on: November 06, 2014, 05:59:14 AM »
Our district has a toy library that is run through the Success by 6 program.  It's great! We can get 4 items and they are due back in two weeks.  Yesterday I got some duplos, a hammer/ball toy, a stand-up walker for toddlers, and something else that I can't recall right now.

Anyways, just thought I'd mention it here - you might check with your district to see if they have one.  We love it!

Alas, ours is on completely the other side of town. At least we know it's there!

I remember that when my brother and I were little and would go visit our grandparents, a trip to their local toy library was always the highlight! They were real Millionaire Next Door types and not the sort to own toys that would only get played with once a year.

Our library has a toy sections, as well as games, and a small section of sensory/OT type equipment. We *love* it.

This is a fantastic idea and I would surely participate if we had one here.

My son has his toys that he absolutely committed to but others he will ignore for a couple months and then one day decide they are worth playing with again for the next couple months. We started switching his toys every couple months so he doesn't get bored with them too quickly.

A mom in my neighborhood is just starting one for Minneapolis, here's the website:  http://mplstoylibrary.wordpress.com/

I'm really looking forward to it for "older kid" toys...  because babies are entertained by anything, but it seems the toys just keep getting more expensive the older they get!

I wish my city had one. The only one I can find is with Easter Seals, and their toy lending program is specifically for special needs kids.

I think this is an excellent idea and I haven't done enough research to see whether this exists in my small town. If something like this isn't available then perhaps it would be a good initiative for a local mom group to start up.

We have one here in Melbourne, and it's a godsend.

Ours allows 3 toys borrowed for 3 weeks at a time, and they have a lot of nice/expensive toys for every age.

We have been able to greatly reduce the amount of toys that we actually own since joining a year ago.
