Suggestions for a Mustachian-Friendly Kid Sleepover
« on: February 12, 2017, 07:15:08 AM »
My 10 yo is having a friend stay over this Friday night and I'm looking for some suggestions for frugal ways for the two of them to have a good time.  What do fellow Mustachians suggest?

Board games, movies, have already prepared pizza dough so they can put the toppings on (although frozen pizza on sale might be cheaper), make popcorn, bake cookie or cupcakes.

They are friends, so they will probably do a good job entertaining each other.  As long as supper and breakfast are tasty for kids, you are all set.

Of more concern is making sure that you either have a place for the friend to bed down comfortably - such as sofa cushions with sheets, blankets, and pillows in you child's room - or that the friend brings a sleeping bag so both kids can camp out in the living room.

I usually have my daughter make the plans.   They do Not need a lot for entertaining though.

Make your pizza is usually a hit, maybe make cupcakes if you bake, I have a little craft usually planed.   For sleeping we use the camping mattress, and sleeping bags.

In the morning pancakes or waffles seem to always be popular.

You don't really need to plan anything; they're friends, they'll entertain themselves.  They'll run around and play outside, or play video games.  It will be loud.

Get a Take N Bake pizza from Aldi's ($5) and serve that.

The 'Night at the Museum' DVDs are $4 or $5 at Target.  Get one of those and let them settle in at night with popcorn and a movie.  (You can pop the kernels in a brown lunch bag for a healthier and cheaper version.)

Just be warned; if your kids are like mine, they will expect the same routine every single time.....so be sure to make it frugal this first time!  :)

Feed them. (Pizza, popcorn, soda?)
They will do the rest.

When I was 10, the answer was always Star Wars.

If you live near snow you should do night time sledding. My nephews love this when they stay over. The dark makes them just a tiny bit spooked so they bond even more and have more giddy fun than if it were daytime. And it wears them out so they don't stay up as late making fart noises as they normally would. :)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
