Reading Kids Financial Related Books
« on: January 31, 2016, 07:48:36 PM »
So I have started to read financial books to my son and I think he enjoys them but I'm not sure when he will start getting much value from them. I have many fond memories of being read to as a child but unfortunately none of it was ever anything financial or economics related.  I figured I would read to my son but would like to give him some good investing and economics skills at the same time.  Anybody have books of this sort they like to read to their kids?

How old are we talking?

The Motley Fool's Guide to Investing for Teenagers (or something similarly titled) was what got me into it.  The MF has really gone down the crapper recently though.

In 2008/09 during the crash I was teaching my 8/9 year old how to buy and sell and let him actually make trades and told him why and what he was buying etc.. He thought it was so cool. I just do passive trading now and ironically last week he said everything he is learning in Econ now we use to talk about. Sadly he is very irresponsible with money! haha..

You can take each paragraph and just read it in away there age will get it. From 5 years old and up with my younger ones I started teaching and explaining readings to them. We talk all the time now as two of them are 10 and 12 how my soldiers(dollars) are battling for me.

Well, my son is only two weeks old, but I was so excited about teaching him about personal finance I started reading a real estate book out loud to him.  He seemed interested but I may be jumping the gun by a couple of years. 8-9 does seem like a good age to start going into depth.

I agree about MF. It seems more and more like low quality click bait.
