Hi All,
Like most of you in this area of the forum, I've been making a conscious effort to provide lessons in financial literacy to my child. Most of the time my wife and I do this through the conversations (and modeling) we have with him (e.g., needs vs wants, costs of owning a home, car, bike, etc.). But, another way I want to try to instill lessons of financial literacy is through books. Our schools do not do enough to educate kids in financial literacy and before my child leaves my house, I want him to be well equipped! Asking a kid to read books in this area is not too much to ask in my humble opinion.
My question to you: Do you have any suggested books that you believe are "must reads" for kids before they leave their parents' home?
My son is in late elementary school, currently, so some of your recommendations may not fit his age now, but I'd love to learn about your recommendations that he (and others) could read from elementary school through late teen-hood. I figured we could compile a list of suggestions. Feel free to suggest books that are both "big picture" (i.e., philosophical in nature), as we well as those that are more nuts-and-bolts oriented. If you have an age range suggestion include that if you'd like.

And.... If you have experience asking your child(ren) to read such books, how has it gone? Did you read the books concurrently? Do you have any suggestions on how to go about "requiring" them to read them (or "suggesting" them or....)?
