Honda Fit convertible car seat
« on: December 13, 2016, 09:01:49 AM »
This forum seems to have a lot of Honda fit owners so I thought I'd ask. Need to upgrade from an infant bucket seat to a convertible car seat. The most important factors for us:
- remain rear facing another year (through at least 2)
- easy to install and move between vehicles
- high height/weight limit (DD is at 90th percentile so may outgrow faster than others)

Currently my top pick is the Britax Marathon Click tight for $$$$$. The selling point is the easy install. We're lucky enough to get childcare help from family and friends and so the seat needs to get moved and be easy to instal by someone not familar with it.

Any other ideas?  Considered Cosco Scenera Next which I know is cheap but I'm not sure on installation.  A car seat for the next 4-5 years isn't particularly where I want to save my money. I'd rather get what works well and save in other places.

I have a Honda fit and two carseats: Britax Boulevard G4 and Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 Matrix.

The Britax is a friggin' DREAM to install compared to the Graco. It's incredibly intuitive and the clasps and straps just work, where on the Graco they stick. The only thing I like about the Graco is that it has a cupholder, which is a great place to put toys.

Looking on Amazon, it seems like the Boulevard G4.1 (G4 is now an outdated model; I bought it in 2014) is only $50 less than the Marathon you're considering. I'm not sure what the difference is, but Amazon's price of $255 for the Marathon isn't all that expensive as convertible carseats that will potentially last for 4+ years go.

If you haven't already, you might want to check out http://www.thecarcrashdetective.com/recommended-car-seats-html/.

I had a Britax Marathon for my kids and it was SO MUCH EASIER to install than the other car seats.  I would just pay for the Britax.  Disclaimer:  I never used the Marathon rear-facing in my Fit.  I'm curious how well it will fit in the car.

went down to Babies R us and tried it. The britax marathon was ok rear facing in our Honda Fit, and we even had it behind the driver seat (current carseat is on passanger side) and I was still able to shift ok (I'm 5'8") Only thing I didn't like was it seemed harder to get the kid in with the sides sticking out (vs the current baby bucket) but looking down the row of options in the store they all seemed to be about the same size so that just may be life rear facing with a Fit.

Sounds like if ease of installation is your criteria (which it is for me) it's worth paying for Britax so I think I'll do it. Other places to save, that's what MMM is all about right- prioritizing!

We have a Honda Fit and a Peg Perego car seat. Installation is easy, kid is comfy, worked rear- and front-facing.

The seat itself is pricier and heavier than most, though, because it's more metal than plastic... which affects the expiry date of the seat, which worked for us, timing-wise, but might not matter for you.

Totally not going to be helpful, but I read the title as "Honda Fit Convertible -- car seat" and was really hoping to see a picture of a convertible Honda Fit :)
