Title: Elementary Entrepreneur
Post by: J.R. Ewing on June 07, 2021, 01:10:18 PM
I have a child who is just wrapping up first grade.  She loves the idea of having a little business.  In addition to the old lemonade stand, we're looking for ideas for kid businesses.  In a couple years, she'll probably be big enough for dog walking.  She's trying to get good at face painting so she can do that at birthday parties.

Any other ideas?  What worked or didn't work?

My son learned to make balloon animals and it was a hit. At the time a family member had a stall at the local farmers market, so he camped out there and just had a tip jar instead of charging a set price. He made a lot of money in a short amount of time each time he did it.

I was a little bit older (maybe 2nd/3rd grade?) but I made a killing selling used golf balls at the local golf courses.  Set up somewhere around the 8th or 9th hole and catch the golfers who are heading into the back 9 who lost more balls than expected on the front 9.  I would sell them for $0.50 a piece or $5 for a dozen, but I'm sure with inflation it's probably more like $1.00ea or $10 for a dozen these days.  I would walk around the edges of the ponds to collect my inventory.  Make sure the golf course is OK with this and also make sure to have your child set up shop on public property.  I was fortunate that my grandparents lived on the golf course, but I know there are a few spots where I could have set up shop on public property that would have worked just fine too.
