8-yo DS went on a diatribe about the stupidity of Starbucks

...and brought a tear to my eye.  I wouldn't go so far as to call my kids frugal, as they still want the latest and greatest toys/activities/parties and have various other 'normal people' inclinations, but his speech detailing why it was dumb to go to Starbucks every day and buy coffee when you could make ten cups at home for the same price was a thing of beauty.  My frugality/efficiency talks aren't falling upon completely deaf ears!

I did my best to be diplomatic and allow that while he was correct, some people enjoy the fancier (but more expensive) drinks that are more difficult to replicate at home, and I did tout the merits of the occasional minor splurge.  I did emphasize that it really needed to be occasional, given the pitfalls of hedonic adaptation.  I know that I was grinning stupidly at my wife despite my best efforts to keep a straight face.
