Likewise. I've ridden my bike past it a couple times, but we should choose an identifiable place in the park to met up.

As for location, Pmallory suggested the park, but no specifics. I've never been to the park, but I can try and stop by this evening and suggest a suitable location. If anyone is familiar with the park and wants to make a suggestion before then, it will save me a detour :)

Is there anywhere nice to camp out along Santa Clara St? This might make it convenient for people arriving via Diridon. On the other hand, the adjacent SAP Center has three Disney on Ice events on the 18th, at 11AM, 3PM, and 7PM.

Same - 1PM sounds great!

Can't you just take Caltrain (depends where in the East Bay you are)? Way more frugal than driving. ;)

Walkway on north side of Santa Clara street just east of Delmas Ave, just west of Guadelupe River and 87. There is a big compass on the ground, we can meet there, and there are tables in the area right behind it. It is just next to where the bike trail cuts through the park, and near to both the Caltrain station and Lightrail stop. Hopefully that works.

I drove down from Berkeley. On the way home I estimated my gas cost was about $13 and parking was $3. Not very mustachian! I better stick to more local meetups.

It was nice seeing some real people in real life and talking about this stuff. I kinda envy the youngsters who are only a year or a few years into their adult working lives and already are all over this FIRE stuff.

That's actually cheaper than I thought it would be, I hate finding parking in downtown SJ! (actually make that downtown any large-ish city) I was going to take Caltrain if I went but brilliantly only looked up the schedule at the last minute to discover the only train that would get me there in time was leaving in 5 minutes from the station it takes me 10 minutes to get to, oops. :) I'll try and make it next time though!

The GF and I enjoyed talking with everyone about their situations and strategies. Unfortunately, we had to bail a little earlier than we wanted because of limited parking time.

Here is a link to the silicone muffin pan I mentioned that we use to portion and freeze cooked beans, chili, chicken stock (after devouring the Costco rotisserie chicken, boil that sucker!), etc.

Thanks CanuckExpat for taking the logistics lead and for bringing some snacks!

This was the second South Bay meetup I've joined. The outdoor/park setting was more conducive to conversation than the prior coffee shop (surprisingly quiet room). I'll be on the lookout for future meetups. We live in Santa Cruz, so the South Bay is a bit of a trek. But with enough notice, we can make sure to plan other things over the hill too.

There was interest at the meet-up, and in this thread about another get together. We could do one, say around the first week of December. It's sufficiently long after the last meet-up, after people disappear for Thanksgiving, and before all consuming holiday season. If people are interested. Maybe someone could suggest a location. It could be in San Jose again, or some where else in the South Bay to make it easier for others. Wwe can also pop up discussion in the other thread

This is a good thought! Otherwise it would likely be hard to make it happen until early in the new year. I'd vote for the little park half a mile from where I live, but probably somewhere right along the train line would be best to make it easier for everyone who would be travelling a bit one way or the other and doesn't want to drive. At the Red Rock meetup, someone said they knew a good park in downtown Mtn View; I don't remember where they said it was but could look into that or see if there's one near the Sunnyvale station if people are interested in coming up this way. Otherwise SJ is fine with me too now that I know to check the train schedule early!

I've known about MMM for close to a year now but didn't register to post until now. I seem to be the only mustache I know and have been doing 90% of the mustashian things. I'm so enthusiastic about this but it's hard to find like minded people in this situation to talk about it all. Friends love going to Vegas every few months which I find it pointless and expensive. Would love to meet others who are in the middle of their retirement trajectory. I have a car, use it to get to work and also have a mortgage. I'm an engineer and I'm at about 65% savings right now.

I'm in Fremont and would go anywhere in the South Bay to meet all your lovely mustashians. One request is, how about we have a pot luck bbq?

Bumping this again now that we're through the holiday madness. Shall we try something in the South Bay again soon? I can start the ball rolling with a few dates I'd prefer to avoid since I already know I'll be busy: Jan 10, Jan 17, Jan 31. Anyone want to be the fearless leader and throw a date and time out there we should aim for? I would but I know I'm likely to have one other blocked date this month and just don't know what it is yet...

I'll also post a link back to this in the main SF/Bay Area thread for anyone who didn't follow this the first time around. If we start getting a serious plan together we can decide if it gets too confusing in here and needs its own thread. Would enjoy another chance to chat with the nice folks I met in Mountain View way back when, and any new attendees or those I missed out on by not going to the last one!

How about the brewery at the new Whole Foods on The Alameda in San Jose? Nice and close to Diridon Station (2 mins walk), and is actually pretty mustachian, as you can buy bottled beer/wine from within the WF store and bring it up to the bar with no corkage fee (they also have a great beer selection on tap). It's essentially an outdoor bar (retractable roof and no walls), but they have good heaters, so is good unless it's super freezing or windy.
I could do mid-afternoon on Saturday 24th, or the evening of Thursday 22nd, if either of those dates suit others??
