Seattle area meet up
« on: June 27, 2014, 11:17:40 AM »
Hi.  It was great getting to know some of you at Camp Mustache.  I was thinking it would be fun to have a monthly meet up and we could rotate between the east side and the Seattle area.  Maybe we could have a monthly theme where we pick a topic to discuss.  Is anyone interested in this idea?

I'd come on the west side if I could. Some of us met up a year ago at Gasworks Park and it was fun.

Okay you guys!  I'm glad a few of you responded.  I'll pick the first meet up location for this month and then we can take turns for planning the next ones.  How does Kubota Gardens sound on either Saturday July 19th or July 20th around 11am?  It is a gorgeous free Japanese Garden and we can bring our own lunch.  It's located in South Seattle and maybe some of you can arrange a carpool?

I vote Sundays, cause I work on Saturdays. The garden sounds great, I live close by.

I did not make it to the camp either, but I'd be interested in meeting up! There's a site called meetup.com where you can organize groups like this if we wanted to turn it into a monthly thing (which I'd be down for).

Here's the plan: We'll meet on Sunday July 20th around 11am.  Here is a link with information about Kubota Garden
http://www.seattle.gov/parks/park_detail.asp?ID=415

Look for a red sign with a mustache on it.

I'll be bringing my family and a friend and a picnic lunch.

Bring a camera and good walking shoes because the garden is spectacular!

See you all soon.

I might be there! I'm introverted and fairly shy, so I might chicken out, but hopefully I'll be able to convince myself to make an appearance.

Thanks for making it out today.  It was a lot of fun.  It would be great to learn more about home brewing (especially in small spaces).

Nice to meet y'all (and see some people again). I might host a beer brewing class / session sometime in September if anyone is interested (as discussed at the meetup).

Is there anyone who would be available for a weekday meetup with small kids?  I don't really anticipate getting my husband to a mustachian meetup yet, so weekdays would work better. I'm usually available toward the end of the week, W/Th/F.

Though if we do a brewing day, I'm sure he'd attend.  We're lackadaisical home brewers, and I think it would be great to get him going again.

Hi!  I would love to join a Seattle meetup if it is happening ... is there a separate listserv for this or are you guys planning events through this thread?  If it's just ad hoc through this thread, how about Sept. 10 or 17?

Honestly I'd prefer weekends. Depending on where and when you have it on Wednesday, I may be able to come. Best would be if it is a dog friendly location, too.

I could make either the 17th or 10th work, depending on location (I'm off work at 6pm).  Since no one has suggested a venue, and it sounds like the 17th works best, how about 8pm that Wednesday at the Starbucks at King Street Station?

Does that NOT work for anyone?  Feel free to counteroffer.

There are like 2 parks within a few blocks of there that would make nice meetup places, too.

... they aren't the kind of parks with grass. They are more 'park' as in a public meeting space with a few benches. Hing Hay park or Children's international are both right there.

Occidental park is close, too, but his area is pretty sketchy at night so I'd stay clear of it this late in the day (heck, I've gotten harassed there at 8 am in the morning, too).

I stumbled on the waterfall garden park by accident once, it is pretty cool too, but its really close to Pioneer Square/Occidental so I wouldn't recommend it after dark.

Just thoughts, btw, we can still do starbucks. But I think having a frugal people meeting at the bastion of stupid spending is a little strange ;)

I've extended an invitation on the ERE forums.  Will see who else I can drum up :-)

We'll do a more orchestrated weekend meetup next time.  What neighborhoods are people in?  That'll help with venue picking in the future..

NW Seattle. Anything north of the ship canal is ideal for me.

I live downtown. Anywhere close to the downtown core (or easy to get to from there) works best for me. Also, weekends are better than weekdays.

Weekend meetups within biking distance of downtown Seattle are ideal for me (although further out is usually fine, too).

I won't be able to make the event on Wednesday, but you kids have fun!

I should be there tomorrow, haven't made it to previous events so it will be interesting to meet others of a similar mindset.

edit> I live in South Seattle near the light rail, so anywhere near the light rail works well for me. ID, Downtown, etc. Capital Hill is also fairly fine. North of the ship canal, not so much.

Hey all,
I just moved to the Seattle area. Met up with some Bogleheads this afternoon, no now I figured I'd see if any Mustachians would be interested in doing the same.  What do you say?

I highly recommend scheduling a meetup!  The last one was great.  I'm fully occupied right now with a move to the U-District, so it'll e awhile before I can organize another one.  In the meantime, I invite someone else to propose a place and time :-)
