I'm moving to Seattle in a few weeks now that I am semi-FIREd (semi because I'm not so sure about RE). Looking forward to meeting people at meet-ups.

Mods - Feel free to remove/move this post if it's too off-topic:
I just started looking for a rental or room share situation in Seattle-metro. Using the usual leads (CL, roomster, friend who lives in Greenlake, etc.) with typical response rate. Need rental for 1 guy (no pets currently but prefer dog-friendly potential for reasons I can explain in detail if needed).

Would be really nice to connect with someone who is familiar with FI as roommates or maybe there is someone here thinking of renting out a space in their place to someone who shares a lot of MMM values with me. Feel free to contact me directly or point me to better ways to connect with this.

Thanks!

I'm in for Chuck's 85th on the 21st.  And my wife and I will keep an eye out for camping details and see if we can make it work.  Anywhere in relatively close proximity works but I especially like the Camano Island idea.  I've heard about those cabins but have never made it there myself.  But camping would be fun too.

FiFoFum, are you interested in living with other people?  It can be a great way to integrate into a new community, and you typically save on your bottom line.  It's been a long time, but I remember finding some cool house shares when I was looking around the area.

Yes, that is what I'm looking for - to rent a room. That's what I'm doing now too, since it is pointless/waste of $ for me to take on a whole rental/lease by myself for my needs.

There are a lot of shared housing/roommate options posted online in Seattle that I'm sorting through. I just figured I'd ask for any leads or potential within the MMM community.

Sorry to request a change, but could we possible switch the Chuck's date to Tuesday, 9/20?  I just realized the first PTA meeting at my daughter's school is scheduled for the evening of the 21st.  If the 20th is a no go for most people who have already expressed an interest in the 21st, we can keep things as is.  I will probably just choose to be a negligent parent -- the PTA has survived without me so far, right?  But if switching is feasible for most people, that would help me feel less guilty.

9/20 would be fine by me. I've also posted this question to the fb page in case people are only tracking in one place.

Afraid on the 20th I'm booked, but certainly understand if it turns out to work better for others.

Well, it's not quite as simple as "dropping in" for me, since I need to take a ferry to Vancouver, then drive 2.5 hours down to Seattle. ;) I still want to come...the date isn't a big deal for me...since I'm FIRE'd. :) I've shown in the past I will gladly travel considerable distances for these Meetups...both north and south of the border. :)

But yeah, the logistics are a bit more challenging for me. I don't think I'll know until Monday (due to some Snow family stuff) whether I can make it. Sure hope so.

This all sounds so fun - I wish I could partake! I'm speaking at a conference on Thursday and I expect to spend much of Wednesday night agonizing over details, but if I can convince myself I'm ready I'll join y'all at Chuck's.

Dang it! I am moving a little too late and will miss the celebrity appearances.

On the bright side, I have found a room rental and look forward to meeting everyone the next go around.

Definitely not going to be able to make it to Chuck's tonight. Even in FIRE, life events can conspire against us it seems. Bummer.

If there is going to be a Green Lake walk (or run? I'm kinda dying to run it) l might be able to scoot on down there in the morning....though my mind is still scarred from my last exposure with Seattle rush hour traffic. ;)

I was sort of kidding about the run part. ;)

Though, if I get there early enough I might put on my sweats and do a lap or two before the main event. The weather looks to be amazing....I think I'm safe to leave my rain gear north of the border. :)

We will meet up at some point soon PowerMustache.

I suggest JS borrow my camp mustache shirt and do endless laps around green lake tomorrow so everyone can swing by and find him easily

We could easily turn this thing into Phase One of the Jon_Snow Boot Camp. :)

*edit* I'm fine with walking.

Well what great fun to meet you all last night!

I had some fascinating conversation so thankyou so much for inviting me.

I won't be able to make the lake walk as I am staying in Tacoma and its a bit of a slog through the traffic... I will head South this morning.

Ta ta for now..:)

Also following.  As it happens, I decided at about 4pm yesterday to see if there were any threads with Seattle locals and I stumbled upon this and the meeting plans but didn't have enough time to scramble a babysitter.  I'd love to join you guys next time with my husband in tow :)

Also the term "Fur lined rut" was coined over a few beers which Amesenator suggested would make an excellent name for a band!.. Maybe Cressida can come up with a tune to go with the name on the cello..:)

hey -- don't let Amesenator take credit for my garage band name!  To give credit where credit is due, though, Glenstache was the originator of the title.  I just put the Seattle grunge spin on it.  To prove my Seattle grunge era street cred, obviously :)

Totally thrilled at how many folks turned out last night, and that we managed to fit around a set of tables, mostly.  But I think the consensus is we need a quieter/cheaper place for the next meetup.  Tacos and $2 beer were discussed.  Can whoever knows the place for that give us a name/location?  And maybe organize the next meetup.  I'm all extroverted out for a bit (though I am totally wired in a good way from all the great conversation, etc).

Haha! My tagine for the night was 'karmic-ly stunted'. Perhaps also good for a band name :-)

Thanks lhamo for coordinating yesterday and this am walk - both very fun/energizing.  Will look forward to catching up with folks again and thumbs up on trying different locale  (although I'm afraid I have no suggestions )!

And thank you Amesenator for the Mexican lunch which stuffed me sufficiently so as to prevent  my planned run around Green Lake.

Yay for not having to run!

Great to see lhamo again - the person all of us owe BIG TIME for organizing these Seattle Meetup events - THANK YOU LHAMO.

And what can I say... Sailor Sam was a delightful revelation. :)

Next time I hope to be able to make the larger gathering so I can meet more of you. :)

Posting to follow as I'm headed up that way. Tahoe house fell thru so looking for new digs and I hear there's beer up there. Blasting out of this hot smoggy hellhole on Sunday and headed north to Wa via western Utah, Wy, Montana and Idaho. Hope to catch the next meet up.

Hell yeah.

WHOA!!!! JS and I were plotting today as we basked in the sun reflecting off green lake on how we were going to lure you into our PNW clutches -- I swear, I did NOT engineer your other gig falling through, though....

I know you like to play it by ear, but let us know as the trip progresses what your ETA might be.  I hope we can get you here before JS heads down to Baja.

Not to sound desperate or anything, but I HAVE TO MEET YOU IN PERSON!!!!!!!  It's a bucket list thing.

Another trip to Seatac coming up!

I'll check this as meeting Spartana is also on my bucket list, as well as most of the other folks posting here.  After staying at the Green Tortoise hostel I know I can use points to fly up and stay for $35/night in town.  So, I hope to get up there for a meetup soon-ish.

I don't mind organizing the next Great Seattle Meetup. I can't promise any celebrities like Jon_Snow or Spartana, though. I just ain't that cool.

How about 12-Oct, at Northlake Pizza, around 1800? (click-y for map-y). Good beer, good pizza, interesting ambiance, easy parking.

Any interest?

Note that Northlake Tavern is a 21 and over establishment... so no mini-staches would be able to attend.
