Title: RVA Meetup
Post by: TrulyStashin on September 30, 2014, 07:36:04 AM
Hey there fellow Richmonders!

In April/ May of 2013 I started reading this blog/ forum and I quickly noticed posts from some dude in RVA named "Hybrid."  We communicated and it turns out we had worked together about 10 years ago and again, briefly, in 2010.  We both work downtown, as does his Mustachian buddy Kevin.  So, we met for a brown-bag lunch and a new cell of Mustachianism was born -- dedicated to badassity, DIYing, and generally subversive frugality wherever possible.  Our Gang of Three turned into five, and then eight, and so on.

We've now grown considerably and Hybrid just suggested that we induct some newbies whom we only know from online.

So, we're meeting this Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, on the deck at Legends (W. 7th Street in the Manchester neighborhood) after work.  Wander in if you can, anytime after 5:30 PM.  Wear your mustache.

PM me or Hybrid if you have questions.

Edited to reflect corrections posted below.  ;)

Looking forward to it!  See you tomorrow!

PS--it's the second, not the fourth.  ;D

Weather forecast is 77 degrees, so look for us on the deck to enjoy the sunset over downtown RVA (bring a light jacket for when the sun sets, it tends to get a little breezy by the rivah). Oh, and most people are arriving between 5:30 and 6, so 5:00 is too early. 5:30 would be a safer bet.

It's 2016 now. Anyone around Richmond or Cville want to start meetups again?

What dates are good for everyone? Is everyone on the email chain still in town? We are up do hosting - been way too long!

How about Thursday, May 19th around 5:30 or 6?  We could meet up at one of the new breweries in Scott's Addition, Strangeways or Hardywood since it has the food trucks on Thursday nights.

I could also do May 26th.

Hey, fellow RVAers!  I was in on the last Meetup in 2014 and it was a ton of fun.  However, most of the people that were there either aren't on the boards at all anymore or haven't posted for a while.  We went to Legends since it was near several of our workplaces, but Scott's Addition on the nineteenth is workable for me.  Let's do this!

Not very MMM, but I live in the country and work in Innsbrook, so as long as there's a parking lot within walking distance, I can try to come if schedule allows :-)

We are out of town the 19th - a different Thursday maybe? @be free - there's parking close by for Scott's addition

So I know the 19th didn't work for smalllife.  Can everyone do next Thursday, May 26th around 5:30?

I was thinking of two different options:

1) Ardent Craft Ales in Scott's Addition (http://ardentcraftales.com/)
2) Stangeways Brewering which is less than a mile west of Scott's Addition and has plenty of parking (http://strangewaysbrewing.com/)

Let me know if you have a preference or another idea.

Thursday I'll be staying home in Goochland County to get the house cleaned up for my sister's arrival the next day, but you'll probably never be able to make everyone happy ;-) So I think you should schedule for the majority and everyone else can then make the decision to or not. But either way, as I look closer at your selections, I'm not sure about either of them anyway. I had assumed we were meeting somewhere I could grab some dinner and it looks like both of those places are just beer tasting? I don't see any menus... I'm not much of a drinker (but I do like to eat =). And may I say, isn't going out for drinks not very mustachian? ;-) Drinks at home, water out in restaurants? Ha.

Thursday the 26th works for me. I'm up for either the breweries or I can host if we start a little later, allowing for potluck and growlers. I'm about two miles from both of those locations with plenty of parking.

Befree, what dates work for you? Its getting to be summer social season so there probably won't be a magic date bit we can try!

I could do the 26th

Let's do Strangeways since it may be a little easier for parking and a table. Smalllife - thanks for the offer on hosting; hopefully if we can get a little larger group going we can make that happen later this summer.

I'll do my best to get there at 5:30, although I may be just a few minutes late. I'll also bring a friend who reads MMM and invite another.

Feel free to confirm if you can make it.  Thanks!

Hi! I know this thread hasn't been active in a long time, but I just moved up to Richmond and would love to meet any MMMers that are here. I'm in the West End. Anybody still around?

Yes. I am still interested in meeting up or setting up something somewhat regular for people in the area. I never heard how the last meetup went. I didn't go the last time because of a schedule conflict and it was just beer places. SmallLife offered to do something at his house and do potluck. That or a reasonably priced place for dinner would be more Mustachian than going out for beers ;-) But eh, to each their own... It would be great if at least a few people were interested...

Finally getting around to checking out the forums! My husband and I moved to Richmond last year, and would be interested in meeting up if there's still interest. Maybe after all this snow has melted?

I'm still interested in meeting up with people sometime...

Definitely still interested, but I agree with waiting for the snow to melt. :)

What is everyone's schedule and what would people like to do? I could do lunch any day or dinner Sat-Mon. Any time except the last weekend of January...

The rest of my January is pretty crazy, and I don't have a February work schedule yet, so I can't weigh in yet. I for sure have every Sunday free though. And I'm down for anything cheap. Of course, it's dependent on where you go, but I feel like dinner gets pricy pretty quickly. My vote is for lunch or drinks, or meeting up at a free event.

Dinner gets too pricey, but you're ok with going out for drinks? What's up with all these Mustachians going out for drinks so much? Lol. That's why I missed the last meetup, as it was somewhere with just drinks and I couldn't get a meal or any food. I don't drink much, but when I do, it's at home. Drinks are far too expensive out in an establishment. I say go somewhere that people can do whatever they want. Just have drinks, just have a small appetizer snack, a full meal, whatever. We're all free to make our own financial decisions, but give people the options to make those decisions. The last choice didn't give me that option, unless I wanted to go and just sit there and drink water or something. Anyway, there are plenty of places to get a reasonably priced meal, depending on your threshold. Generally speaking I want lunch to be less than $10, and dinner to be less than $20, but $5/$15 is even better. But there are plenty of places I do for lunch that are the same prices for dinner. It's pretty easy to find dinner for less than $10, especially if the number of people interested doesn't get too high... Two of my favorite lunch places are Pie Five $7.50 for food) and Zoup (<$10), but I also frequent Moe's ($10) and Zoe's (can range from cheap to >$10). Or if you want to go REALLY cheap, there's Cici's ;-) ($6 for the pizza buffet I think? Lol. Can't beat that). But most of those don't have alcohol. I know Pie Five and Moe's do...
