Ooh, I do have something stripey to wear!!! I was getting a little worried there for a while!! Ironic given my username I suppose.

(I just have a small wardrobe. Wouldn't bother doing Project 333 or anything as I suspect I wouldn't have any clothes to put away...)

If we're tallking bills here already, then how about I post mine here too, so those not coming to the meetup can see too (I don't have a journal). I just paid my last Synergy bill, from memory it was about $0.90 per day... I don't see how I could male it any lower really, short of doing things like unplugging the fridge, opting for romantic candelight dinners or committing to charging ALL devices at work...

I'll post Synergy and Alinta costs here in the next few days then unless anyone has objections.

Meh. I'll just put them here anyway (please let me know if this is too derailing for the thread)

Righto, Synergy (electricity). In reverse chronological order.

Sep 14- $48.95- Single household
Jul 14- $112.95- Single household but friend stayed 2 weeks, lots of heating on
May 14- $82.15- Two person household for some of that time
May 14- $92.70- Two person household
Jan 14- $74.20- Two person household
Nov 13- $66.75- Two person household however I was away overseas for half of the billing period
Sept 13- $90.00- Two household

This is an older style brick veneer house with gas stove and gas hot water. I don't have a TV or a modem (mobile phone works fine). There is an older style aircon unit in the front room. I don't usually heat or cool the place much except if I have guests, or if I have a TOIL day and I'm studying in winter (sitting down stationary, the heating is nice... although I do use a nanny rug too). When ex housemate was living here there were more lights left on, and he had a desktop perpetually on. Other than that he was a pretty minimal electricity user.

On reflection, I have no idea why my last power bill was so low. I doubt it was the tax repeal...

Anyways, Alinta bills to follow shortly.

Oh sweet, that's probably close enough for me to cycle. I've been really getting into it lately, I don't know why I didn't start sooner (sort of kicking myself for never cycle commuting when I worked in the city).

I'll be there, but I don't own a single piece of striped clothing, so I'll be looking for your stripes and the mustache sign. :)

Wish I could have stayed but great to meet you all. let's throw out some times for November? I will straight up say the 15 and 16th are less good for me, but other than that I am open to anything. Suggested location was tranby house in maylands. Bring your kids :)

It was great to see more people at the meetup.

Second tranby house for November!
But the only days I can do are 22/23nd or 29/30th.

Do we want to organise a bike ride sometime too? Might be worthwhile doing it in December or waiting until March (Jan and Feb might be too hot)?

I dunno. First two weekends of Nov are out for me, the last two are maybes. Have after hours duties 29/30th.

Am keen for a bike ride. If we do it relatively early in the day then we could go any time of year (my preference). Suggestions of times welcome :)

That works for us as well! We can probably manage by 9:30 (SO likes a bit of a sleep-in).

Also, we're going to the Jacaranda Festival (Ardross St, Applecross) on Saturday 22/11/14. Gold coin donation for entry, and I love looking at stalls of handmade things.

I'm not gonna make it either, the BF had minor surgery yesterday and I wasn't sure whether he'd still need someone around today - turns out he does. (He's completely fine by the way, nobody worry!).

Hope everyone feels better soon, there must be a few bad bugs going around!

Glad you and SO had a good time, anatidaev. ;)

Idea for another meetup would be another picnic at some stage, I suggest McDougall Park in Manning/Como (See: https://anecdotalanna.wordpress.com/2012/01/01/mcdougall-park-comomanning/)

Pros:
- Park with lots of shade
- Quite a decent playground
- <5mins walk from train station
- Toilets etc. available
- Two blocks away there's a cafe with quite decent coffee too, but pretty busy on weekends
- Got a very cute community garden
- BBQ available but in high demand during day- would only be avail. in evening I suspect

Cons:
- It's summer at the moment so it may be hot during the day
- It's not in the CBD
- The council has recently removed all the sheoaks from the centre island of the lake (= good idea) but did it all at once just before summer and didn't replace with mature native trees so there's a fair bit of algae for the ducks to negotiate (= a bit suboptimal)

As an aside, would anybody be keen to see the May and Herbert Gibbs Collection with me in South Perth when it's next on? I like museums and galleries and stuff, and May Gibbs is a local around here.

We also floated the idea of a pre xmas pot luck at hyde park. It's quite shady/not hot there.  But either/or works for me :)

Hi guys! Hope you all have had enjoyable, relaxing, or at least civil Christmases :) It's been very quiet for me, as I didn't quite get enough days off in a row to make flying home feasible (4 days and $1100 when it takes a 4-hour flight and a 4-hour drive to get there means the 4 days don't end up being much... and the SO can't tolerate red-eyes which is irritating!). So I've had good times with a combination of church, work friends, and other friends, and have enjoyed... well mostly doing nothing. And the weather has not been too hot- I haven't turned on the air con yet!**

I would most certainly be up for a meetup, but in reality I probably have the least of a holiday shutdown***, so I think I should just get the ball rolling, state when I am and may not be available, and we go with what suits the majority. Alternatively I am more than happy to meet up with people in smaller groups or individually on a more casual basis. I have lots of coffee and shortbread to share at my place! :)

Okay, so:
- Monday (tomorrow?!?)- available.
- Tuesday and Wednesday- limited service at work, basically I need to turn up in the morning, see if there is anything to do, and if it gets to early afternoon and there's nothing (50:50 chance), then I'll dismiss my team and we'll only return if something crops up.
- Thursday (bearing in mind this is NY day) I am free.
- Friday- same as Tuesday and Wednesday
- Weekend- available.

** This is not meant to be a 'share your badassity' statement, just a measure of how mild the summer is. My house despite being from the 50s or 60s has some decent design sensibilities such that the air-con can remain off for quite a bit of the time.

*** For those that know what I do, this is one of the busiest times for year for us.

New year's eve and day are always pretty hideous days to be out where there are people, so I'd be leaning towards Friday or Saturday? Somewhere central would work better for me.

I'm also wondering if there's any appetite for a pot luck games night at some point? I'd be keen to host one.

I am pretty busy with work but new years day could work for me... I can't really do much else as I have to go to the folks house on the weekend as I worked all Xmas. I will likely need to work a few hours on new years day as well. I float bardon park as an idea for new years day... It seems to be not that busy ever and has a lot of trees and parking.

And yeah... Stripey this has been the coldest summer yet. I only got my fan out for the first time on Saturday... There have apparently been a few hot days but only for little patches in the middle when I have been at work.Sat was the first day when it was still hot in the evening :)

Cool, I'm not free on new year's day so if that looks like it'll work for enough people, I'll bow out and leave you to it.

I will definitely start looking at dates for pot luck games night though. I have a few new games that work well with bigger groups :D

Or do NY day **and** another date if people are keen (bearing in mind that NY day is rather soon now)

@limeandpepper, I've been told that my car needs a 'longer run' every now and then to keep the engine happy (one of the issues with a frugal lifestyle-- car's not used???!) so maybe I can come up some time on the weekend or something.
