Brunch on Saturday, the 24 Sept or 1st Sept? I'm good for either.
You meant 24 Sept or 1 Oct, right? I can do 1 Oct and miiight be able to do 24 Sept depending on family camping plans

I can do 1 Oct, cannot do 24 Sept (will be drinking wine in Margs with my MIL for her 60th HECK YES).

Niiiice. Mum and dad are going on the Ghan for her 60th and spending a little bit of time in each of Adelaide, Alice and Darwin I think.  Apparently RAC members can get a discount on the train tickets if booked far enough in advance.

Shall we lock in brunch on 1 October then?

I'd also love a catch up in early September if anyone else is keen :-)

And why not, Deborah?? :) It's as good an excuse as any. Plus we do tend to meet up a little more frequently than some of the other Aussie groups.

Aaaand. I'm now probably free to join you. I'll be back from my Big Scary Exams in continental Europe and my friend's wedding in Bath* by then, and mum's birthday thingy is probs going to be delayed by the imminent arrival of two new twin grandchildren**.
*Yes, the wedding is at the Roman Baths!!!

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to the forum, I've been hijacked here by HappierAtHome from another discussion (check signature at the bottom for details :-) ) and I'm still trying to find a decent path to my FI. Happy to see such a big group of Mustachians  in Perth.

Just wondering if anyone is around this week (from Thursday the 25th to next Tuesday), for a coffee + chat or similar.
Due to my work I always have a limited time to spend in Perth, not sure I'll be around in October.

If something gets organised for the next week as per rasics82's suggestion, I'm about a 50-50 chance of making it (depends on health stuff that day, which I won't know until the day). So I'm a 'maybe' if it goes ahead :-)

I am mostly working evenings this week and barring last-minute calls should be mostly free during the daytime  except Friday when I'm working the whole day. But transport is a bit annoying for me so depends on the location.

Soooo after work in the city on Monday?

Anyone have a suggestion for somewhere to get a drink and maybe some eats?

Also, rasics82 revealed in another thread that s/he part owns a cafe in North Perth so I think we will need to hold a Meetup there one weekend :D maybe the Sept 10 or 11 Meetup?

Rasics: 5pmish Monday at Stables works for me - meet down the front near the entry?

I will be bringing my mustachian friend who has been to several meetups. Mr Happier on the other hand is excited about being home alone and playing computer games with the sound turned up really high :-P

MsTerror, Anatidaev and Mr Duck, brand new rasics82, Melody's sister (who I think we should dub Harmony, because lolz), me and Bulbee (Bulbee being my friend who has come to a few Meetups and lurks on the forum under that name). It was good seeing familiar faces and meeting new people!

Also something I saw online that you guys might be interested in - it kinda touches on some of the things we were talking about tonight:

What's all the fuss with payday loans?
An excerpt:

Quote
Goodshepherd is a not-for-profit organisation that offers low interest short-term loans and other financial programs and advice.

They commissioned their own research paper into payday lending earlier this year, and found a massive spike in the number of women turning to these kinds of short-term loans over the past 10 years. It went up by 110 per cent, compared with an 80 per cent increase for the general population.

"Vulnerable women are the fastest-growing segment of the payday lending industry," Adam, CEO of Goodshepherd, told Hack.

"This is an industry that is really a lender of last resort, that provides very expensive, extortionate, and in many cases entangling finance for people on low incomes that have no other option."

Adam says part of the reason young women in particular are getting in over their heads with payday loans is that big banks are hesitant to lend to an increasingly casualised workforce.

"Young women are disproportionately and highly represented in roles such as teaching, nursing and community services," he said.

"Governments or companies are taking a much shorter-term commitment in terms of employment contracts and therefore banks are getting nervous about that variability of income and are therefore less likely to lend responsibly, forcing young women that need finance into this hazardous debt cycle."

But that's not the whole story.

The Goodshepherd report found one of the most common reasons women found themselves turning to services such as payday lenders was "chronic overspending". In fact, 29.3 per cent of solo women - including young singles yet to have families - listed this as the underlying cause of their financial stress.

While some of those people were turning to loans to pay off other debts, like Caitlin was, the majority were using them to pay off their cars, utility bills, or as extra cash for holidays.

hey what's the address of the new place for the meetup this coming Saturday?

Cloud Nine Vegan, 58 Angove Street North Perth.

I've ended up with an absurdly busy weekend, so I will definitely be there but might "only" stay for a couple of hours instead of my usual three or four hours.

So it's confirmed there!!! I'm very excited ...and a bit worried also :-)

I might suggest to book a table from the website as, hopefully, on Saturday it will be busy!

Sadly I won't be there, but I'll be here waiting for the reviews. Thanks to all!!!

Well, there has been a change of plans. Last year I was going to drive across the Nullarbor, see all the wonderful things in the South West, and go to a Perth meetup. Things were changed (I wasn't wanted, and then I was, urgently), so I flew over, saw nothing and didn't go to the meetup. This time it was really going to happen. But I'm not wanted, and I need to be elsewhere. So I'm going to miss out again on seeing all you wonderful people. Maybe next year...

Then I won't visit my WA family if they don't want me, and I will not have all these urgent family things happening elsewhere. AND I WILL GO TO A PERTH MEETUP!!!

Sorry.

Sorry.

Im sorry you cant make it. Was looking forward to meeting you.
