Not necessarily volunteering to organize, but gonna throw this idea out there.

I know tickets haven't gone on sale yet, but expect that at least some of the people who post/lurk here will be going to Camp Mustache PNW in 2025.  Camp is great, but it is a bit short/expensive/structured for some of us.  Plus the tickets are hard to get and it would be nice to give that opportunity to network/make friends to people newer to the FIRE movement.

I haven't checked it out in person yet, but found this place on line and it looks sufficiently flexible/quirky to possibly appeal to a broad range of MMM/FIRE types:

https://pacaprideguestranch.com/

They have a largish yurt for gatherings, a variety of accommodations (guest rooms in a proper building, yurts, covered tent platforms and the ground), restrooms and showers.

Anybody interested in trying to set something up at this location for either the week before or the week after Camp Mustache PNW?  I'm thinking something similar to the Moab meetup in terms of structure (or lack thereof) -- everybody books their own accommodation and plans what they want to do in the area themselves, but we could reserve the larger yurt each evening to have a place to gather in case of rain, etc.  We could have an ice cream social and plan other potluck type meals.  If people don't mind staying up late we could probably even just have a bunch of us sleep in the large yurt after the evening festivities die down.  That might be a good way to accommodate spur of the minute joiners who don;t have a good tent or vehicle sleeping space.

I could probably offer a ride to at least one person from Seattle -- most likely I'd use this as a chance to test out my car camping setup, but can probably keep the passenger seat free.

Again, not necessarily volunteering to organize something structured, but thought I'd throw the idea out there.

Paging @FIFoFum (can you find Crow for me?  don't see her ID here anymore) @NinetyFour @Dicey @Chaplin @Exflyboy @spartana -- my brain is failing me right now I know there must be others whould might like to participate in something like this so please feel free to add them.

I'll post a link to this thread over on the Moab 2025 thread as well.

Camp Mustache PNW is typically memorial day weekend, which in 2025 falls on May 23-26.  So probably either directly before or after that so that people coming in from elsewhere can do both.

I would not be opposed to doing a short trial run to check the place out sometime in the spring. Though I may be doing a family trip sometime in April/May, so would want to work those details out.

I'm interested. It's always fun to meet up and, selfishly, the timing and location look ideal for an early season warm-up bikepacking trip.

We usually head for Van Island around that time, and would love to try and loop something like this in.

I'm open to ideas and am open during that timeframe right now at least.

DW (HRH) is not really into the whole FIRE thing so I may end up having other plans.. MOAB is when I get to play with my weirdo friends..:)

Thanks for the batsignal @lhamo . Always nice to be included with the cool kids. I'm terrible at making plans but this sounds like fun - and no hot dry weather like Moab! Love the PNW in spring.

I played around with their booking tool a bit and it looks like you can book the large yurt to hold at least 10 people/ night -- might be a bit cozy with that many people and their gear, but would be a good option for last minute drop-in folks who don't have a full tent set up (or if it is rainy and people would rather be under cover).

I think I want to at least go see the place before committing to it -- might book a night in one of the yurts or even one of their guest rooms to meet the owners, talk with them about our group, walk the property, etc.  It may be that the place that folks used for a different NW PNW gathering a few years ago (a church camp, IIRC) is a better site.

I'm excited -- @FIFoFum and I have been tossing this idea around for a  few years now.  Would be great to actually have it happen in 2025!

Duh.  I don't know WHY I remembered your username from years ago and not this one.  Brain too spinny with lots of stuff, I guess.

Update:

Due to my own pending travel plans it is likely that if I am the one organizing this it will need to be the week AFTER Camp Mustache PNW.

Alumni tickets to Camp Mustache sold out quickly this morning and regular tickets will go equally fast tomorrow.  I'll check back in in a couple of days to see who all got tickets/is on the waiting list and might be up for this idea.  I'm heading north for a couple of days this week and MIGHT swing by the location to check it out on the way up or back.

Stay tuned....
