I was thinking Malcolm X aka Meridian Hill Park for a potluck.

If yes, what weekend days in May/June work for you?

Yes, yes, yes! And you picked my spot! I organized a Mustachian picnic at the same park last summer. I'm pretty flexible except I'm not available Memorial Day weekend.

Sorry to break the trend but I definitely prefer May 31. June 7 is DC Pride weekend which means the Meridian Hill region of town is going to be packed with all kinds of craziness. Awesome craziness that is, but still, I'd go hands down the 31st so we don't have to fight parades and crowds and conflicting invites.

And also, for the record, most of the DC people who participated in the last meetup (myself included) seem to have moved to the Google Groups for coordination, I'd definitely recommend either starting these discussions there in the future or, at the least, keeping that forum up to date. I think you'll see better responses doing that. Besides, we'd love to have any other DCers from this forum join our discussions there anyway!

Nataelj brings up a good point. We could also meet at a different part of town on June 7th and save Meridian Hill for a future meet up? There's lots of parks in DC, and one option that popped in my head is the waterfront at the Navy Yard metro. carghi, the park you are referring to is called Yards Park and it is very lovely.

Thanks. I learned about the Google Group after posting this, and Jfer rose posted the event there. I think we should post to both because new people join this forum all the time.

I am good with the Navy Yard park on June 7th. What time works for you guys?

I went ahead and checked the events calendar for June 7 at Yards Park. Nothing going on there that day, so that's a big plus. For those who are interested, Tour de Fat will be there on May 31. hmm, think my previous point was misunderstood, I meant less that we should move the location and more that we should move the day. As it is the slot you're aiming for is now smack dab in the middle of the Pride Parade, which is one of the major highlights of the weekend! For any who haven't seen it before, it is highly entertaining.

So yes, to clarify, it seems ill advised to me to intentionally schedule this during a weekend that has major events going on when we have the time to schedule for one that's more open. Just my two cents.

I think the terraced area carghi suggested would be great. I have picnicked there before. If you pretend that 4th Street continued through the park, the terraced area is just to the west of where 4th would be.

I appreciate the explanation. When I first saw that link, I thought that was all there is to the park. I saw other photos and it appears to be larger than I thought.

Hi everyone,

I am a new Mustachian (still working on reforming my bad spending habits, but I'm getting there and I thought maybe making some mustachian friends might help!). I saw there was recently a DC meetup! I'm sad that I missed it but could we perhaps start planning one for July? Perhaps it could become a monthly thing! Might I suggest a bike ride out to Gravelly point and then picnic? Or perhaps one of the Smithsonians if it's too hot outside?

I would be up for a bike ride or a Smithsonian trip. The bike ride would have to start somewhere near the outside of DC though, as I live in MD and I am not going to drive and try to park in the city proper, I always take the subway in.
I would love to get together over this long weekend even, maybe even go see the fireworks!
