DC MMM Meetup Group?

Hey Everyone,

I saw there were some DC meetings planned in July and September. I just moved to the area to start my first job out of college and I'm trying to be as mustachian as possible. I really like the idea of meeting like-minded people so that I have equally cheap friends who are interested in my kind of fun (e.g. long-distance biking rather than bars and eating out).

I am thinking that this forum isn't the best way to manage a stable, semi-virtual community, and so I wanted to get input on other options. I went to check out meetup.com, which is great as a user, but unfortunately is not free for meetup coordinators! How antimustachian :(.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a web-place to manage a more continuous MMM community?

I wonder what other regions do to organize better.. perhaps MMM should find a way to form some regional groups / associations..

Thanks for taking the initiative on this.  Please add me too; I'm moving to the area mid-December.  I'm not familiar with any other websites that would be useful beyond meetup.

I would love to be in on this as well. I was just thinking the other day that there should be a DC-specific MMM group that could discuss local things online and then coordinate meetings in person. Perhaps a yahoo group or something like that?

A yahoo group could work. Do Google groups still exist? That could be another option.

Count me in. I leave in SE Capitol Hill. I missed the last two meetups because I was out of country but would love to meet other MMMers.

I'm in too.  I'm just across the river in Arlington, but within easy walking or biking distance of the District.

Perhaps we could try a Google Group and see how that goes?  If we actually build a big enough group where something like Meetup becomes much more convenient for easier management of events, that's a good problem to have and one we can probably solve when we get there!

I think using google groups would be a great idea.

For the september meetup, i had a list of at least fifteen people interested in attending!  Only about six actually ended up making it, but there seems to be a great deal of mustachian interest in the dc area.
