Gaaah I don't want to see this thread languish. Let's make this meetup happen!
***I propose Thursday, April 30th at Kelly's Pub.***
Kelly's Pub
949 W Webster Ave
Chicago, IL 60614
Mr1500 will be in town that week, and roadtripper is available Mon and Thurs. I figure Thursday is a better meetup night than Monday. (Well, for those of us still working, anyway.) That being said, if Monday is better for everyone, then Monday it is.
Kelly's Pub is two blocks south of the Fullerton el stop, so it's convenient. Plus it seems like a lowkey place to talk -- with an outdoor beer garden allegedly! I don't know how crowded it gets, especially if it's a nice evening, but we can take our chances. On Thursdays, they have $3 beer, so cheap drinks. http://www.kellyspub.com/index.html
April 30th seems far away, but it'll sneak up on us quicker than you think. It will give people some time to find the thread and consider going. I'm flexible, though, so this date doesn't have to be set in stone.
Let's do it!
Ha I just quit my job at the zoo last week! Not to retire...but for a better job. Weird timing. Anyway, I'm up for meeting wherever. All the dates mentioned work for me.
I'm in for a May meetup, sounds great to me.
I'll be there, too!
I'm in, too!
You know what's funny? The day before I started my mini-retirement in November was the last day I checked these forums.
Starting this early since I know for sure I will be there. I'm visiting Chicago August 12-14th 2016 and would love to attend a meetup while there. I think I'll be mostly downtown, but could meet basically wherever.Pick a time and a place - those who can attend will be able to attend. Those who cant', can't. :-) That being said, if you had a particular time and place I could add it to the calendar now. :-)

Let's meetup at Brehon Pub at 731 N Wells. Say....... Saturday the 13th at 7p?
I'm in for May.
I'm in for May.
I am in. But I am baffled at the venue, surely there are free outdoor eventts in Chicago during the summer time. For example, we can bring picnic food and meet up on the deck of the botanical garden at Navy Pier. My first year in Chicago, so call me clueless.
Fairly new to the Mustache blog but definitely looking forward to some life hacking, and also looking forward to meeting some local Mustacians.
I am in for a meetup. I am in the NW suburbs.
I'm up for May!Great! We look forward to seeing you!
My wife and I plan to travel to Chicago around mid-May this year; if we're in town on the 17th we'd love to join! We'd love see you!
I'll have a better idea of our schedule in a week or two.
Just added both to my calendar, May i'm there for sure, August I may be in Nicaragua at that time, but I look forward to meeting everyone. Just to give everyone a heads up on costs for The Option Room is anywhere from $3 PBR to $7 Daisy Cutter/$6 Drafts otherwise. Thanks for the quote on costs. I've heard they have midweek specials (but I've never been there).
I'm planning on coming to the one in May
I am happy to start a Chicago Chapter of the meet up if there is enough response. We may do regular meet up, such as once a month or some reasonable schedule. Please let me know your thoughts.

Hi Terry! I think that's a great idea. Feel free to add me to the list! My email is cyconmichael@gmail.com
My wife and I no longer live in the Chicago area, but still make trips there every couple months or so to visit family. So we're unavailable for monthly get-togethers, but if we're in town we'd love to join a meetup!
Very sorry to hear about your tough situation. I really hope you can find the support you need here or elsewhere.
Where is everyone thinking?
Is this going to happen?
Hi all, I would definitely join the May meetup. We should start some sort of formal meet up group and have everyone's email as a list so we can share thoughts, support each other etc.
Let's face it, it's very difficult to be or find a Mustashian. I have a crushingly bad story to share: my family net worth is approaching retireable level, but my spouse is into BMW SUV and other luxuries. With those things, it never ends and will become an ever increasing money drain. I am mulling over divorce but there is so much pain associated with that....

I am tentatively in for the May meetup! I'm new to Mustachianism and finding it hard to meet other people who are frugal.
I'll be late though, as I work in Evanston.
I'm new to MMM, but definitely want to change my lifestyle. I want to come meet up with you guys - anything special I need to do or just follow this thread for dates/times/locations?
Boo, I'll be at a conference in CA on the May 15th. Not sure about any August plans yet.
We take the cat to street fairs almost every weekend during festival season--we volunteer for Tree House, but also go for fun when we're not volunteering. So if you go to a fair and see a couple walking a black cat, that's us.

My wife and I will join for the May meeting as well. Can't wait to meet some Chicago-MMM folks.
May 17, 2016. Tuesday - 5:30pm-7:30pm. The Option Room - 401 S. La Salle Street, Lobby 3, Chicago
My wife and I were able to confirm our trip for that week this month, so we'll definitely be there on the 17th!
Thank you for setting this up!
I'm another maybe, though I'm guessing I'll arrive closer to 7 than 5:30. +1 may come as well.
I'm in, too! :)
WOW-great meet up with all the MMM Chicago folks. We had at least 30 people at one point - amazing turnout and I will post more later. We even had two people from over 6 hours away join our group. Just awesome. Here's the pic of almost everyone. There is a Meetup group I will post a link to later for any that want to sign up on there.
We will plan another one in about a month. It was so much fun!! Thank you to everyone that made it. I look forward to more (frugal) events.
PS- If anyone picked up my tshirt with MMM mustache on it, please PM me - it is my son's from China and will be pretty impossible to replace. :-( I cannot believe I forgot it!!!
Thanks for organizing! It was great to see everyone.
PS - the woman very bottom left corner is me, Sibley (also known as Katie) :)
Hey everyone, it was great to meet so many of you and see so many mustachians all together! You are better with names/faces than I am, and it will take a few meetings before all of them connect. I really had a great time hanging out. I probably introduced myself several times to each of you! :-)
I think I caught the names of most people I spoke to except maybe Matt (???) who used to buy old Mercedes. I'd love to keep in touch with you all!
Will brainstorm some additional locations given the nice upcoming weather, such as the Cultural Center, LP Zoo, or Millennium Park free concerts. And that bar was a pretty ideal space!
Mike (and Liz)
Really great meeting everyone! :)
Was a good meetup, only complaint is that it was pretty loud/hard to hear people. A few of us were saying we should have maybe a potluck/BBQ at the lake for the next one(s). What's better than being outside on a beautiful day with awesome food, playing vball, frisbee, etc?
There is a Meet Up group in the link below. Sign up there and you can add these events to your calendar easily. Terry is the leader of that group. He's going to add the meetups from this forum onto the meetup calendar. Last night the meetup.com note had 23 RSVPs yes...and you know a bunch of us showed up. It's nice to get the reminders of the upcoming event.

Otherwise, here's the next currently scheduled event.....
August 13, 2016. Saturday - 7:00pm-?. Brehon Pub - 731 N Wells Street, Chicago
Also ETA - Thanks Terry for finding and saving my son's MMM shirt. Whew.
I may be able to make the October 22nd date. Posting to follow. Northerly Island or North Avenue Beach may be nice, depends on the weather.
What about Oct 15/16 Chicago Architecture Open House.
I have to look into this for next year! What about Oct 15/16 Chicago Architecture Open House.
I will be volunteering at Open House Chicago and then checking out the sites out when I'm not working. =)
For future reference, it's a pretty sweet gig: volunteer 4 hours, get a priority pass for the weekend, get 2 tickets for a free walking tour, and get half off a membership to CAF.
10/22 sounds great. A Chicago meetup that I caught ahead of time and the infamous MonkeyJenga will be there? In!
How will the lake be?
Couponvan, that sounds great! I'm in and will probably bring a friend (my wife is out of town unfortunately). What is a "come as you are" retreat?
North Ave beach is a great idea and should be pretty calm this time of year. And sunny! Note that technically alcohol is not allowed but a thermos of Irish coffee seems pretty reasonable to me.
FYI there is a (crappy but well-located) restaurant there, Castaways, but it is already closed for the season. I think the public bathrooms will still be open.
Looking forward to it!
-Mike
My midterm projects are all due this weekend, but I'll try to make it if I get sufficient school work done. Should I try to bring the Tau if the weather is cat friendly? The infamous TAU!! Oh yes - do bring him. Your mind will need a break and the cat needs a walk. (Even though I'm allergic, I LOVE cats...outside they are way better than inside, as I can admire them and not sneeze.) It's going to be cold, but given he's a Chicago cat, it shouldn't be anything he can't handle. :-)
I expect the actual lake water will be ICE COLD. The water stays surprisingly chilly even when it's hot out.
Put me down as a maybe; I'm not sure what's going on this weekend yet. I'd like to, for sure!
Barring rain, we'll meet at the North Avenue Beach park at 11:00am on Saturday. If it is raining (less than 10% chance), we'll converge at Dollop, 4181 N. Clarendon in Chicago. Frankly, I've never been to North Avenue Beach or Dollop. I also have no idea if the prices are mustachian at Dollop or not, but it's less than 10% likely we'll need it.
Well, the meetup starts in 15 minutes and I just woke up, so looks like I'm out. How long are you all planning on staying?
We are here. :-)
Great to meet everyone - so nice that you came out on an almost chilly october day to just chat.
Inaya, Chesebert, frugalShrew, mschaus - I am missing names - who's missing from this list?

I can help procure a "party room" in my building for the next meet - location not far from the last meet.
Generally yes. Cleaning fee is imposed for those groups that fail to cleanup after themselves ;)Great to meet everyone - so nice that you came out on an almost chilly october day to just chat.

Great meeting you, too, G-dog!I can help procure a "party room" in my building for the next meet - location not far from the last meet.
That sounds pretty awesome - I assume as a resident you can reserve it for free?
Yeah was so great to see everyone! Amazing timing with the retreat and the ability to meet people from across the country! My friend had a good time too, even if he was a little shy to try a game of monkey jenga.
I'll keep trying to brainstorm indoor locations for winter! A condo party room is an awesome idea, or maybe the Chicago Cultural Center or Lincoln Park Zoo Conservatory.
Mike
Monkey Jenna is not a game! It is a way of life.
It was great meeting everyone! Even the cat had a good time, once she decided she more-or-less approved of the sand. Hope to see you all next time!
Wanted to let people know that I've started an FI Meetup Group in Chicago.
