Hi, I'll be moving to Tucson next month and would appreciate any tips & advice you can offer.

About me: Late twenties, I'll be earning 60k, office is downtown. I'm coming from the Bay Area and cannot believe how affordable the rent is. Do you suggest an apartment or renting a small house?

-A grateful Mustachian

A bit late to this thread, but I'm in Tucson as well and would be up for a meet-up!

Alright, we can give this another whirl. Looking at my calendar I'm free the last two weekends in June.

I should be able to make that work too. Any suggestions on where to meet up?

We are out of town June 23 weekend.  June 30 would work well.  My Retirement date is looking like July 6.  Mrs. HF alread already retired in March this of this year. So any time around the end of June through  July would work for us.

Well, if there is someone almost ready to retire they need to be there, so let's make it Saturday, June 30th. Some ideas at different levels of mustachianism:

Meet up for a happy hour somewhere (social lubricant never hurts)

Reserve a library conference room and play games--this could happen at one of the many game stores, too.

I'd suggest a hike if it weren't so hot. We could always *gasp* drive to Mt. Lemmon for somewhat cooler temps. Same thing for an outdoor potluck dinner.

Alright, so happy hour it is with one vote. I like both El Charro downtown and Blanco at La Encantada. Any other suggestions?

Also, I have another event on June 30th, so I was wondering if we could switch to meeting up on Sunday, July 1st? If not, I could still meet at 3pm, I just wouldn't be able to stay for too long.

Either day works for us.  Blanco's is one of our favorites, so we vote for that one.
Mrs HF retired on March 27 and my date is July 6 , so this is the perfect time for  a meet up

I've got big sideburns and I'm wearing a light blue thanksgiving run t-shirt today...don't have a giant mustache sculpture or anything to put on the table.

Alright gang, that was a great first meetup, looking forward to doing it again!

As we spoke about briefly we are looking at doing a potluck dinner at our place next month for the meetup. Does Aug 18th work for everyone that is interested in coming?

Hi all, I'm in Tucson as well and would like to attend the next meetup on 8/18, schedule permitting. Do you mind hosting a couple more? We'll bring a yummy dish. :)

Okay everyone, we are two weeks away from our tentative date we set after the last meetup. We are still intending to host the event on the 18th unless that is just terrible for everyone. A few choices for time of the event:

1. Potluck brunch @ 11am
2. Potluck dinner  @ 5pm
3. After dinner drinks @ 7:30pm

I'll give everyone a week to give their input, and then I'll set the time next Saturday morning, after which I'll send our address to anyone that RSVPs.

Looks like it might be a bust anyhow...I'm giving it until the end of today and then we are canceling if there are no responses. Feel free to message me if you want to get together when you are back and recovered. I have beer and board games.

Mrs HF and I retired July 6 at 61 and 58. We are part of the FIR community. Retired( but not early.)  We'd like to get together at some point with other MMM members.  Tucson is a great place to retire.  One of the more famous Fire Bloggers is based in Tucson. This would be really great - any plans to meet up again? We're near the Rillito path via Mountain if there's anyone nearby. I hate loathe despise driving around Tucson but wouldn't mind hosting at our house after an initial Meet Strangers from the Interwebs meetup somewhere public!

We had a very small but great meetup in July. I couldn't get anything put together for August. I'm not super active on the forum, but I do think it would be great if we could get a local group going. I'll let someone else spearhead the next meetup, and I will see if I can change my notification settings so I at least know when someone has posted here.

Edit--Well, that was quite easy. Technology, I'm with it.

Yeah this thread was pretty amusing - organizing an event basically just sucks always. And it especially sucks if it involves strangers who don't yet owe you/each other the consistency required of friendship.

I have a good friend who would probably be down to meet Mustachians - she practically is one herself and I've learned anything I know about financial responsibility from her.  We usually meet up at the Hop Shop on the weekends, I'll probably just give a heads up here of when we're planning to meet, and then if no one shows up I'll still have company!

So, probably this weekend.

No meetup this week...probably won't keep posting it here, but if someone in Tucson wants to join on Tuesdays, or plan something, leave a message here or message me directly. I'll be around.

Hello everyone,

My name is Benjamin Dubertrand and I am a social anthropologist from France. I am currently a visiting scholar at the University of Arizona.
I am interested in the FIRE movement and  I would like to conduct research on individuals who have retired early in France and the United States.
I came across this forum while researching the topic and I am impressed by the level of engagement and discussion here.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in sharing their experiences with me and participating in an interview for my research. Your insights could be invaluable to me and could help shed light on the motivations and challenges of those who pursue the FIRE lifestyle.

The interviews would last between 30 and 60 minutes and can be conducted in person or via Zoom or Skype, depending on your preferences and availability.

If you are interested or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to hearing from you and hope to engage in meaningful conversations with the members of this community.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
