Anyone in Montreal?

If there are any Mustachians in Montreal it would be great to organize a get together sometime this spring/summer.

Ottawa Valley here! Maybe close enough, please do drop me a PM if something happens!

Or maybe there are a few Ottawans?

I'm in Montreal.  I think we have a few others from the 514/438 region, as well as some Ottawa peeps, two of which have Ottawa in their screen name.  I'd love to get together.

I'm so excited to have found somebody in Montreal :) We could organize a picnic in Parc Jeanne Mance once the weather gets a bit nicer, but I'm also open to any other suggestions.

A picnic would be wonderful!  I live in the McGill Ghetto, so it's in my neighbourhood.  And if we schedule on Sunday, there's the Tam Tams for great people-watching entertainment......

Does sometime end of June sound like a good idea? By the way if you are into flowers the city gives away free flowers, plants and compost at the park tomorrow at 9 am.

Agreed.

Weather wise this weekend is probably not the best. But generally if it's on the weekends I'm free.

Hello Montrealers!

I'm an Aussie heading to Quebec early next year to do a student exchange at Laval. It would be pretty awesome to meet mustachians on the other side of the pond/world, and I imagine I'll be spending a few weekends in Montreal while I'm nearby so I thought I'd poke my nose into this thread.

Also if you have any suggestions about the easiest and cheapest way to rug up for winter (coming from 35+ degree weather as well) they would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe see you sometime next year.

Cheers,

Liz

Throwing myself into the Montréal pile :)

For winter gear, thrift shops are you friends, especially if you're not staying long!

Yeah thrift stores are a good tip. Long great coats that go down to the shins are pretty sweet.

I used to live in Montreal! I'll keep an eye on this thread in case I'm visiting next summer :)

Has anyone been to Nilufar? It's on St. Catherine on the way to Atwater. http://www.restaurantnilufar.com/

Their $2 lunch deal is *AMAZING*. I've tried other things on the menu, but nothing beats their falafel, lentil soup, and peach pop! SOoooo good.

Never heard of it - they're outside of my borough, but next time I splurge on transit I might have to stop in ;)

Hi all! Anyone up for doing something Monday July 6th in the later afternoon or evening? I'm thinking maybe a picnic? Open to suggestions from locals :)

I'm visiting Montreal until July 14 and would love to meet up if anyone is free. I recently went to a meetup in Toronto where 10 mustachians showed up and it was great!

I'm posting on this old thread in hopes that some of you are subscribed & will see this message.

Hi valerie!

I might be able to show up but no promises; I am returning from a camping trip that weekend so I am not sure how crazy things will be in my household.  Hopefully some of the other locals will respond shortly!

Of course I'm subscribed! Mustachians are smart! ;)

I'm definitely up for it! My preference would be in the evening since I still work.

A picnic is a great idea if the weather is good. The weather forecast is positive for now but we have to consider a plan B if necessary.

Where would you like to go? Mont-Royal?

Looking forward to meeting the local Mustachians! :)

Woohoo, it's alive! Nice to hear from you :)

@AmbitiousCanuck - I'd be happy to move it to another weekday evening to accommodate you better :) Are there are any days that work better for you?

@Mat Mobile - let's definitely do something in the evening then. Yes, I was thinking Mont Royal. I'm not familiar with the city enough to suggest something for plan B. Do you have any ideas for what to do in case it rains?

@Mat Mobile - woohoo! looking forward to meeting you both. Shall we go to Mont Royal for a picnic or a general hangout? What time?

@Kitsunegari - yep, it's an open invitation, anyone reading this is welcome to come. Plan is TBD, probably something at Mont Royal. Do you have any ideas?

Now of course I'm slighty panicking because the first instinct is to suggest a café, but it's so anti-moustachian that I'd out myself as spendypants right away!

Picnic in parc Jeanne-Mance? Around 18h30?

Cafes aren't necessarily antimustachian - they're part of our Montreal culture, especially if there's a terrasse ;-)  We could always go to the Second Cup at Parc & Milton in case of rain.

If any out-of-towners want to know where to buy picnic food, let us know.  My suggestion is Eden in La Cite.  Buy a sandwich at the front of the store and fruit at retail (non-takeout!) prices at the back of the store!

See y'all on Monday!

My wife and I will be able to pack a lunch.

I'm partial to somewhere around "Lac des castors" but I will follow the group.

@Kitsunegari Ha ha! I was also fearful of suggesting a restaurant (I'm not the cafe type). So I agree with @Rachelocity that with our harsh winter, it's good to go out in the summer and enjoy the terrasses. Unfortunately, the pricing of just about everything in Québec is ridiculously expensive so your money doesn't go very far... But I digress.

I agree with Second Cup at Parc & Milton in case of rain. We could post an update here on Sunday evening once we know better what the weather will be like.

In case of rain, if people are interested in having dinner somewhere. There's a nice vegetarian restaurant called http://lola-rosa.ca/site/ about 2 streets away from the Second Cup. It's not mustachian, but if we share nachos (which look amazing!!!) and have a beer (or two), we could consider it Mustachian.

I'm looking forward to finally sharing tricks and opinions with fellow mustachians!

Cool!
So to summarize this:

Monday July 13th, at 18h30
- in case of sun, parc Jeanne Mance
- in case of rain, Second Cup at the corner Parc/Milton

In both cases, we'll need to reconize each other, so maybe a common item?
Does anyone else own a rainbow shirt?

Sorry... No rainbow shirt.

And I don't have any other idea...

How about a meeting location (at the parc) and a hand gesture? I suggest pretending to punch yourself (gently) in the face. (MMM reference of course. I'm not actually violent.)

Oh, you have a couple of days, just go buy one! XD

Maybe a red shirt? That should be common enough?
A gesture wouldn't work, as we would have to do it all the time, as people will not arrive all at the same time.  I really don't want to punch myself in the face for an hour or so...

Looks like it's going to rain today after all. Let's meet at the Second Cup at the corner Parc/Milton right away at 18h30? If it's nice out after all we can walk to the parc.

I'll be wearing a light blue skirt, if that helps :)

@Valerie, sounds good.

I think MMM himself is in Canada since he has a meetup in Ottawa this fridayhttp://www.mrmoneymustache.com/meetups/.

It would be cool to let him know... But I'm sure his mailbox is full and he might not be monitoring it very closely. It's also pretty late notice. I don't know any other way to reach him. Oh well...

I would have gone to meet him Friday but we're going on vacation abroad this Wednesday.

It was great to meet @Valerie and @Kitsunegari yesterday!

It was fun to exchange information about tricks, strategies, books, etc.

Also, I've never felt so guilty buying a sandwich... Lol (I had to... Or else I would have gotten a headache and that's never fun!)

If ever anybody wants to organize something in Montreal, just post it here. I don't follow the forum very much but I'm subscribed so I'll receive it as an e-mail for sure! :)

I will send out PMs asking for e-mails to exchange everything we discussed.

Come on MTLers, let's meet up for coffee/tea somewhere, or any kind of outdoor activity once the temperature gets better.

Not dead. This thread is just in a coma. All we need to do is resuscitate it.

I would love to do a meet-up again once the temperature gets better!

Summer is the perfect time of year to visit if you're on the fence, great festivals and things happening around the city all summer long :)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
