Any Phoenicians here?
« on: March 13, 2012, 01:51:42 PM »
Hello Mustachians! I live in North East Phoenix right off the north tip of the 51 freeway. Any neighbors here?

Redmond: Some good discussion was had!  Next up: Black Raven if people are up for it.  We're closing on a house so someone else should pick a date and if the place is unsatisfactory, perhaps change that too.  I recall there were requests for Thursday?

Not sure if we qualify as a fully qualified "mustachian" (still some ways to go) but I and my family live near Indian School and 24th Street.

I'm thinking about moving to Phoenix in a couple months.  :D

Does that count?

I will probably be moving to Phoenix in the next 3 weeks for a new job.  I need cheap but safe housing.  It would be great to meet up with like minded folks as my first action in my new home.  Any ideas/comments welcome.  I'll post when I'll arrive when I know for sure.

@shadow - good luck! I've all but given up on PHX as it seems impossible to secure a job prior to relocation and PHX is SO HUGE that it doesn't make sense to sign a lease somewhere and commute across the valley.

Scottsdale would probably be the safest but not the cheapest.

I am now a resident of Phoenix.  I have an apartment on a 7 mo lease to figure my way around.  Anyone up for a meetup?  I'm open to location as I don't know the city very well at all (been here 2 weeks), so I will consider it an adventure wherever it is.  I had a job secured before I moved here, and it is the reason I'm here.

There are other Phoenicians!  I'm near the 51 and Shea.  I'm also a Tucson native, so happy to see some Wildcats here as well.

I'm at Greenway and 7th Street.  Seems like the 51 is a popular thoroughfare for Mustachians (or wannabe Mustachians).

I guess I need to find a place and pick a time for a get together.  Be the change I want to see and all.  Being new to Phoenix I will ask my co-workers for suggestions.  If anyone on here has an idea, let us know.  As of right now I work weekend nights, so I would request a week night.  This may change in the next couple of weeks, though.

I'm in the Northeast, near Tatum and Greenway

It's a bit too hot right now to do this the frugal way and just meet for a potluck in a park, but
we can certainly toss a few ideas around. Maybe someone has access to a community centre
or something of that nature.

I have poked around meeting venues in Libaries and community centres and they all have fees
Some won't work weeknights because they close early.
I would probably be ok to host something in our house, once I know you guys a bit better,
but I'd perfer to first meeting to be in a somewhat public place.

I recently saw a board game group meet at Frys and I see lot's of people use the living room set up at Frys to get together.
The one on Tatum and Shea seems to be popular.
I have no idea if you need to reserve the space or just can show up, but I remember seeing lots of folks
having some sort get togethers there

Another option, for the heat tolerant folks are the free concerts in Kierland commons on weekends

I live in a mobile home/rv park in Mesa, and I just found out we can use our community room free of charge.  There are tables, couches, a small kitchen with a fridge to keep beverages cold, and a largish coffee maker.  As I said, I work weekends right now, but any weeknight I can set us up with a place to meet.  If we decide to do this, I'd prefer to have folks email me for the address rather than post it online, even though it would just be to to park and not my actual door.  The community room is large enough that up to 30 or even more would fit fine.

Let me know.

Mesa is quite a drive for me, but if some of us could find a way to carpool from NE Phx I'd be in.

My schedule is due to change soon, but mostly that means that weekends might also work.  I think I'm going to end up on a midnight to noon shift during the week.  So, whenever folks want to meet our community room is available.

Hey all,
I thought I'd dig this one out before it get's too hot!
With the lovely weather we've had lately, I thought it would be nice to get together in one of the parks

Quite a few folks mentioned they live along the 51
so there's several choices according to google maps
Paradise Cove Park (40th St and Paradise)
Palomino Park (31st St and Marconi)
Venturoso Park (32nd and Thunderbird)
Indian Bend Park (36th and Thunderbird)

I personally don't know any of these parks though.
I have recently attended an event at Chaparral part and really liked that park,
but I am not sure how convenient this would be for all.

Alternatively if Shadowmoss would still volunteer her community room, that certainly would be an option

bump!

I'm in south Phoenix and can drive for a carpool, if anybody's interested. It's cold enough down here now, though, that we probably don't need to go north. :P

New to the Forums and been living in Phoenix for a year and a half now. Would love to meet up with some fellow Mustachians (although my own are just some newly grown peach fuzz). That being said, spending time with Mustachian families would be great (I'm married with two little girls). We are in North Pnoenix, Greenway and the I-17.

I'm in Phoenix from Flag though. I know its not very mustachian to drive to a different cities, but were always up in flag. Grandparents, family and friends are still in Flag for the most part. Definitely interested in meeting mustachians.

Bumping this thread again.  I can offer use of a community room/pool with full kitchen for a get together.  I'm in Mesa.  I'm up for someplace else if that is not central enough for folks.  I'd love to get together with others from here.

So glad to see more Phoenicians MMM folks pop up on a daily basis ;)
I'd love to get together, especially as I missed camp mustache this year.

I'll be out of town June 3rd-19th, but we could maybe do something on the weekend of the 20th, which gives everybody a lot of time to prepare.

Shadowmoss, if are you still up to offering your common room, that sound like a great suggestion.

I'm up for the weekend of the 20th.  I work nights/weekends, but I'll stay up for this.  :)  I can just say I'll be at the community room, and there is always a big pot of coffee on in there anyway.  Pool should be open as well.  I'll verify on the calendar in there, but for now I can say that it is a go.  Email me at shadowmoss@gmail.com for directions.  Near(ish) to Broadway and Gilbert, which is a specific as I'll get on a public forum.  Let me know whether Saturday or Sunday work best.

Im in North Phoenix, Greenway and the I-17. I would definitely be down for a large meet-up. Its hard in the summer now cause of the god-forsaken heat, but early morning hikes, or evening round of disc golf? Let me know, we have enough here maybe we can make up a phoenix chapter of MMM followers!

Hi all Phoenicians!

Lainey here.  I've been lurking but am officially registered for the forum now.  I've met Shadowmoss months ago but we're on opposite work schedules so haven't been able to meet up again.

But I'd like to propose a time/place.  The only public places that are free are libraries and parks, and it's still to hot to be outside much.  Since it looks like we're spread out geographically, it seems to make sense to meet in the greater downtown area first.  The Biltmore shopping plaza at 24th St and Camelback has free covered parking and a Paradise café/bakery.  I'm assuming most people have plans for Labor Day weekend, but what about the weekend after, say Sunday Sept 13th?
We could meet for a quick coffee around 10 am and say hi face to face.   Then later as weather cools down we could decide on meetings in parks, homes, or other spots.

Interested?

Hey, Lainey!

I'm on days again now at work and off on weekends, so I can probably show up.  I'll pencil it in.  Again, my air-conditioned community room (and outside pool with hot tub behind the community room) are available in Mesa for any get together we want after this one.

Lainey and I met for coffee at the bakery this morning.  She had a small MMM sign at the table, but no one wandered up to join us.  It was good catching up with her as we hadn't gotten together since I first moved here - we know each other from the SimpleLiving board at http://simplelivingforum.net/ .  So, I'm going to try again.  I will be in the community room at my park from 10am on next month on Sunday, October 25.  We have a full kitchen, a large coffee pot full of hot coffee, a heated (if that matters by then) pool and hot tub, chairs and tables.  I live near Broadway and Lindsey.  Email me for further directions.  The light rail comes as far as Mesa Drive on Main.  We can arrange a shuttle if that helps.

Don't like the location?  Don't like the date?  Suggest a different one.  Lainey and/or I will probably show up.  Lainey was talking about having a book exchange.  We can talk about other things to try as well.  Between the two of us we will most likely keep trying locations and dates until we get someone else to show up.  :)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
