Just checking in. New Cleveland member here.

Welcome! Are you an east sider, west sider, or somewhere else? If you prefer not to say, it's cool :)
Thanks. I am presently a "near west-sider" in Edgewater. Will be moving in a few months to Brooklyn, which i guess is still Westside.

Nice! I'm on the west side also. I know a few other posters are as well. Good to see more locals on the board.

Welcome!

We definitely need to have another meetup soon. We had a great time last time.   I may be willing to host, as long as I'm not judged for having too many old cars :(

Consider yourself judged. I'll be damned if I'm seen at a house with old cars ;) As long as I don't have anything planned, I'm down for another meetup wherever it occurs :)

I would be willing to go to another meet up. Do you have a place, time, or activity in mind?

How does grabbing a few drinks and bowling sound? I'm thinking a weekend day with enough notice so everyone can make it. How does Saturday, February 17, 2018 around 6PM work for everyone?

If we're good with the east side, I'm thinking Corner Alley in uptown.

Thoughts?

I checked with Mrs. mies and it looks like we already have plans for that night :( You don't have to reschedule on my account, I just wanted to let you know I won't be able to make it.

I'd also be open to having it at a more central location. Where is everyone located? I am in Valley View myself.

I知 on the west side, but I have no problem meeting up in other parts of town. The only thing that keeps me away from a meetup is if I already have something planned or if trying to get ther would get me stuck in rush hour traffic.

How to do you like Valley View? Strongly considering buying a house there when the times comes. I come from a rural area and it just seems like "me", while also conveniently located in the central of the metro.

From the last meeting, I don't think anyone was FIRE'd yet. We are all working towards the same goal.

Yes, working....I hope toward FIRE, but always to efficient use of my resources, as much as is possible with six kids etc.

I was just notified that I'll be traveling for work on the day we planned the meetup, unfortunately. If someone wants to take over organizing it that's fine but I won't be able to make this one :(

I suggest bumping the date out a few weeks since it seems like Feb 17 is not going to work for most who are interested.

I should be able to make that date. Independence is a nice central location and is easy to reach from any part of town. Rockside is a ghost town on a Saturday afternoons too so traffic should be pretty light.

Hey All!

Wife and I are planning a possible move from the Brunswick area (west side) to Beachwood/Shaker Heights. We need some info on the area. We've got two kids (5 and 3) and are looking to get a feel for the area. Anyone interested in jumping on a zoom call with us one evening to tell us your thoughts? Sorry to hijack the thread. I don't want to mess it up more than I already have so feel free to DM me if you're open to talking.

Hey guys, it looks like I will not be able to attend the meetup on Saturday. I have family passing through town and my dad wants to take us all out for lunch. Most of my day will be tied up with them visiting. Sorry to flake on you so close to the meetup :( The plans were made kind of last minute and I haven稚 seen these relatives in over a decade

Jumpstarting an old thread here. I have been having some financial discussions with friends and acquaintances through Facebook and someone asked about a meetup. Is anyone in the Cleveland area interested in getting together in the near future?

I would be interested. Things get busier for me this time of year at work and with helping my parents with yard work, but if the time and place you choose works with my schedule, I would attend.

Not sure if you guys have heard of this movie.  So I got approval for a screening of a new documentary, "Playing with Fire" to take place at Regal 16 in Willoughby on Monday July 15th.  I helped crowd fund this thing on Kickstarter and it just was released to us in streaming last month and is awesome.  Include a bit from MMM, and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to help spread the word.  Needing a way to explain to friends and family what this FIRE thing is all about?  Please check it out and share the link with anyone you want as for the movie screening to take place we need to get to a minimum number of tickets.  I am not making anything directly off of this but am hosting it with my side hustle financial coaching business I am trying to gain some traction with, which may or may not generate any interest.  Hope to see some of you there and please help spread the word for a great view of the committing to the FIRE journey done at warp speed

Anyone interested? We still need 43 tickets to be purchased before the screening is secured. There is a meetup at the local BW3s after the movie to chat about the film and all things money. Hope everyone can make it.

I see the total went down to 38. Do we even have 38 more people on the board from the Cleveland area, or even 19 with someone to bring?

We might be running short on NEO people on the site but hope everyone has and continues to share the info on social media.

Yes, as I've shared on other channels, Tugg (the site helping us run this event), says the events that actually happen require ticket buyers to become part of the "sales" pipeline.  Otherwise we do "run short" of just one or two of us tooting the horn.  At this point, like anything, the low hanging fruit has been picked for me, and I'd assume likewise for Brett.  But for others you know people we do not who respect your opinion and might just come along because they'd like to spend some time with you and would be OK doing it at a movie and a restaurant afterwards.

At this point we have 34 left.  Which means we've got over 50% (44) that are already reserved.  Doing that in a bit over three weeks is a pretty good pace.  With others helping finding the remainder should be almost easy, as we have probably gotten to the tipping point where is each person gets 1-2 more we might have enough.  I've been a pretty blatant promoter to everyone I know talking this up to the point where people have asked me I myself am actually in the film.  I need to sheepishly reply that no, I am not, but I believe in the message enough to talk about it this passionately.  I will be buying one more ticket for my wife, so I know at least one more will sell from my end (right now I just have my ticket in the mix).

I also am not sure how many of the people from this board even saw it here.  It seems most of the traction was from the ChooseFI NEO board, but obviously I do not know how many of those are in both place as clearly the three of us are.

It's good to know people from around NEO are aware you are trying to get a showing. Whether we can actually get enough people to commit to it, I appreciate you taking the initiative to try to get a screening here!

The viewing of Playing with FIRE is confirmed! The theater must have decided to move it to a larger room as this morning it said we had 70 tickets reserved with only eight tickets remaining. As of this reply, the website now states that there are 47 seats available. The more the merrier!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
