Vanguard isn't the only game in town. There's E Trade and AmeriTrade.

I sent the adviser today, a courtesy email just letting him know I transferred the accounts, and why. So that he won't feel I've done things behind his back, I guess. If I were a financial adviser working on commission, I'd want to know.

So how I got my parents out of their scalping FA (they invested with him in 2013 and lost money). I asked them what sort of asset allocation they wanted, then for simplicity sake (as they are not interested in learning how to manage their money) I gave them 3 options for vanguard mutual funds to pick from. They're up 9% since the switch earlier this year and back to the initial amount they gave their adviser in 2013.

Sad. But they should be good for autopilot now.
