What type of account should I be investing in for early retirement?  I'm currently maxing out my roth ira at 5500   a year. I'm 28. Thank you.

Start with maxing out your HSA and workplace retirement accounts if you have them. Don't worry about being unable to access this money until age 60. See http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/investor-alley/how-to-withdraw-funds-from-your-ira-and-401k-without-penalty-before-age-59-5/ and https://seattlecyclone.com/accessing-your-retirement-accounts-early-yes-you-can/ for more information about why the "your retirement funds are locked up until you're old" thing is a myth.

See also the 'Investment Order' tab in the case study spreadsheet.
