Title: What to do with my money?
Post by: jroes571 on August 25, 2013, 02:10:44 PM
Hi,

23 years and self employed. I have built up a decent sized stash and looking for ways to invest it I already have a IRA that was started last year. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I am very similar,  (though not self employed, and depending on your definition of 'decent sized' I probably have a smaller stash) and ,retirement accounts aside, am planning on starting with the S&P 500 index, then either go with something with higher dividends, or maybe just the total stock market index.  DRIPing everything of course, until in FI.  All invested via Vanguard, of course.

I'm sure there will probably be other takes, and people will probably want more info, but I think "hey, I've got extra money, where's the best place to start?" will pretty much end with the s&P index or total stock index.

Ya it was pretty generic but I don't have a real good idea on investing I mean I heard about vanguard and I have been following the blog for a while so Ill check into the total stock index. Thanks!

I generally point people to jlcollinsnh's stock series (http://jlcollinsnh.com/category/stock-investing-series/) start with part 1 and work your way through that. He's said it better than I ever could.
