VTENX large price move

VTENX is a target date retirement fund.  Today it's price dropped from $26.14 to $25.29, a loss of 3.25%.  But, none of its components moved nearly that much.  Is there some kind of share issuance that would is associated with this price drop? Or some other accounting change going on?  Otherwise it doesn't make much sense...

It's just from distributions.

Okay, I suspected it had something to do with some processes that occur around the end of the year.  Could anyone unpack for me a little more the accounting of how the distributions cause the share price to drop?  Sorry if I am not quite getting it...

Let's say you had 10 shares of VTENX:

10 shares at close on 12/27 = 10 x $26.14 = $261.40

You received a dividend/capital gain of roughly $0.83/share at close on 12/27. That dividend is reinvested on 12/28 at that day's closing price of $25.29.

10 shares at close on 12/28 = 10 x $25.29 = $252.90
+ $8.30/$25.29=0.328 shares @ $25.29 = $8.30

New balance:
10.328 x $25.29 = $261.20 (basically flat, slightly down from 12/27)


You basically have the same money as before, except for that day's fluctuation. The dividend that was coming was reflected in the price of the 12/27 shares.
