My oil/gas plays have covered calls written on them.  I'll be saying goodbye to a lot of them over the next 6 weeks.

As in the contracts will expire and you will write no more? Or that you expect that the underlying you hold will be called away?

I'm currently in the money and expect to be called.

I'd be careful with pure oil stocks.  Fracking is strongly challenging the oil industry and doesn't seem to be slowing down. On the other hand, companies that use fracking may be a relative deal at the moment?

I own shares of BP.  It is a dividend stock.  I didn't buy until after the spill.

When it drops below $30, I buy.  If it goes above $50, I'll sell because I don't think it would stay there long.

It works for me and we aren't going to quit oil until there is none left.

I've got my eye on a few names on the Canadian stock exchange. None of them meet my buying criteria yet, but some are very close. I would guess that I might be buying in the next month or two. I am looking mainly at the mid-caps.

I have some energy ETFs for a long while now.  I hold, but don't see a positive story for them.

A bet on oil is a bet on the US and global economy, middle east politics on shale oil production trends and on solar prices.   Is the economy going to expand or contract with impacts on demand? Will Trump sanction Iran? Will shale oil production continue to increase and depress prices or flatten out? Is solar going to continue crashing in price or flatten?    If can forecast all these, you can forecast oil price and company stocks.  Good luck!

PS I bought BP and PBR at lows after scandals and have been happy despite three year crash in oil prices.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
