Vanguard Index Funds
« on: October 02, 2019, 09:39:44 AM »
Hello,

I have been reading this website for years and am very interested in investing into Vanguard Index Funds. I'm having trouble navigating the differences between the options. Does anyone have any recommendations for an investment of roughly 20k USD?

Check out this from our old friend Interest_Compound:

We use the LifeStrategy Growth Fund for our IRA assets. Cheap. No fuss.

From the other thread, because I didn't want to re-ignite it 2 years later just to make a joke.

. . . snip . . .

Enter your time period, rebalance frequency and investments and viola, accurate results.
Just make sure you can read alto clef.

If you haven't already, consider reading the jlcollins stocks series in order to understand investing before diving right in: https://jlcollinsnh.com/stock-series/

As for the options, there are certainly a plethora to choose from. For starters, I would invest in the S&P500 mutual fund if you are U.S. based.

Jlcollins is a good place to start.

Your ratio of stocks to bonds will be very personal, but here are some well diversified low cost VG index funds:

500 Index
Total Stock index fund. Same cost as the 500 Index, but you get 3000+ more companies.
Total International Stock index
Total Bond index.
