Vanguard funds: asset distribution?
« on: April 13, 2016, 09:33:22 AM »
Another newbie post, and I know this topic is pretty old at this point...but at risk of beating a dead horse, I just maximized my 2015 contribution in my Vanguard roth and plan to do 2016 next week.  I still have about 35 years until retirement.  What are everyone's current suggestions, particularly pertaining to international/emerging market exposure?

I go 55% Total Stock Market/25% Total International/20% Total Bonds in my Vanguard accounts.

Keep it simple - particularly if you don't have enough to meet fund minimums, the all-in-one target date or life-strategy funds are still pretty cheap.

Do you have other investment accounts?  401k?  Other Roth IRAs (if married)?

I personally try to match global equity markets. I do that by investing in VXC and VCN in Canada, but I couldn't help but put 10% in VCN for some home bias. VXC tracks US, International developed and emerging markets making it easy for me. Not sure if there is a US version of this fund, probably a US fund and then another that tracks all International. Split 50-50 or thereabouts. Jack Bogle the ol man himself suggests sticking with US only. All roads lead to Rome and all that, just pick one and stick with it.

Thanks for the tip, VTTSX looks like a great option.
