Vanguard 401k reinvestment.
« on: December 27, 2018, 04:05:33 PM »
Hey all,

Need to reinvest my 401k which got moved to a Vanguard money market.

I am 42, would like it to grow but not be too risky.

I looked through the funds but end up lost as I am not a seasoned investor.  Some previous recommendations that have been made(prime cap) all seem to be "closed".  I assume this means I cannot purchase as a new investor.

I would love recommendations on how to diversify about 200k and maybe even some input or reasoning on the choices.

Primecap has been closed since 2004 for new investors. Might I suggest a balanced fund, which is 60% stocks and 40% bonds.

I personally would not go any lower than 60% stocks at your age.

I'm willing to buy into a few different funds so please tell me what you think is wise and possibly what %'s of investment you would do in each fund.

You only need two funds. VTSAX (stocks) and VBTLX (bonds). You choose which percent you are comfortable with. You said you wanted limited risk so I suggested VBIAX which just holds those two funds at 60% stocks, 40% bonds.
