US vs International %s?
« on: April 29, 2015, 09:00:55 AM »
Just curious on how people have split their spreads for US vs International  (30/70, 40/60 ect)

I am particularly talking about the below index funds, but I suppose it could be others.
VTIAX - INTERNATIONAL
VS.
VTSMX(VTSAX) - US -TOTAL STOCK

I am going to start buying some international and want to come up with a pulse on what the community is sitting at.

Thanks!

Most would be from 20% to 50% international. Some may even have 0%. I'm about 33% right now.

Of my stock investments, I split mine 70/30 US/Int'l using the funds you mentioned.

Here's a decent thread with arguments for and against holding international if you want some reading:

I'm at 50/40/10

um, 10% what? Outer space?

Anyways. I've set both my portfolio and my wife's to about 70/30 now. Some argue that since the US market has increased so much, the international has lagged, we should expect more growth in international. Compelling, but this is of course market timing.. I'm sticking to no more than 35% international for now.

holycrap huge image. How do I make it smaller..?

funny, to me US is international, so I'm 45% international...

That's 30% Canadian bond index; 25% Canadian, 25% US and 20% EAFE Equity Indices.

My tax-deferreds are 45% US / 55% International, specifically 30% VEA, 10% VSS, 15% VWO. Oh, and a tiny bit in FRN, a Schwab Frontier Markets ETF.

Once I actually start pumping up my taxable accounts, I may tweak the makeup of international but probably not the 45/55.

60% domestic.  40% international.  Anywhere between 30% and 40% international brings down your overall risk as much as possible.  If you want a portfolio sitting on the efficient frontier this is it.

For those of you who haven't seen it...
