Title: Tracking Error Question
Post by: milesdividendmd on June 21, 2014, 02:03:39 PM
I love Vanguard funds.

In fact my biggest single holding is VIIIX (the institutional shares of their S&P fund.)

I was surprised to see that yesterday when the S&P finished +0.17% and VOO was up +0.20%, VIIIX finished at -0.28%.

This is unusual to say the least, and for the life of me I cannot figure out the source of this tracking error.

Do any financial types know how to answer this question ?

Had it just not been updated for the day?

If you click on the Morningstar link you can see that the loss still shows one day later.

This is also the value recorded on yahoo finance and my Fidelity account. I think its real, I just don't know why.

It went ex-dividend (https://personal.vanguard.com/us/funds/snapshot?FundId=0854&FundIntExt=INT#tab=4).  The dividend will probably show up Monday evening.

Thanks Geekette,

I looked for news of dividend distributions on many of the sites, but not on vanguard.

You are awesome.
