Total market fund + Sustainability
« on: September 24, 2020, 09:33:08 AM »
Anyone have a recommendation of a fund similar to VTSAX or VTI etc but that bakes in all the Sustainability /ESG considerations that are growing and maturing these days?

Naturally it would exclude some of the big companies that make up the list of large caps that dominate these funds

Suggestions? Thanks

SPYX is the S&P without fossil fuel companies.

SDG is a world baed sustainable fund.

Vanguard has a few options, too.

Wow literally just got an email that VG just launched a bond fund with ESG focus today.

Not sure if that was cookies tracking my web browsing or if it was legit haha

Also look into what they mean by ESG, because there is no single standardized definition.

The vanguard ESG funds exclude companies that:

Quote
Produce alcohol, tobacco, adult entertainment, or nuclear power.
Produce civilian firearms, controversial weapons, or conventional weapons.
Do not meet certain diversity criteria.
Operate gambling facilities or produce Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO).
Violate certain standards defined by the Index provider's ESG controversies assessment.
Are involved with fossil fuels such as thermal coal, oil, or gas.

I like promoting diversity, and moving away from coal.

But I don't have any problems with beer, porn, gambling, GMOs, or nuclear power.

I avoid these funds not because of i predict poor returns, but because they don't really line up with what I find to be ethically or socially good.

Interesting yeah I need to look into that.
I am actually starting to work in this field, on behalf of a corporate filer who produces ESG materials and is evaluated by investors (like vanguard).
So I'm wanting to get up to snuff. Working on this and seeing what goes into it has made me want to maybe look at my own investments through this lens, (as you said, if I care about furthering diversity with my own dollars, etc.)

But really I'm responding because I noticed you're in St.louis. So am i!  I just moved here this summer from Atlanta to be closer to my girlfriend. Nice to see another person on here.

*Cheers*

I'm a transplant too, moved here eight or nine years ago for work. There are a few others on here, too.
