The dumpster isn't even on fire! We still have a long way down to go.
The top broke down. He dumped after the top. Got a reality check.

Well, we have dropped all the way to levels not seen since...<checking>...Friday morning.

Although the VIX is below 15, so who knows.

Wouldn't it be funny if the top actually was in?  S&P 6000 - it was an amazing day... pretty much like any other.  10 years from now we'll be hoping S&P hits 6000 again someday!

There are various 10 year periods where the S&P 500 had a loss (like 2000-2009, the lost decade).  None of them featured "millions in the west starving to death".

It's time for me to get a snack. I could get hungry over the next 10 years, it's best to be prepared.

On Monday, I might sell all shares and buy a large warehouse of oatmeal.

Better to invest in hardtack.  Oatmeal rots.  You can build a house with hardtack as bricks and still eat them when things get tough.

Chickens, and a place to plant a garden, and a patch of forest to get firewood from. And this is how you get preppers!

Can I hedge against losses with investment in bug out bag futures?

TOP IS IN!

After almost 8 years (Holy shit this thread has been going a while lol), the Top is no longer In, I have jinxed it by selling about half my portfolio for a potential home purchase that I hope will close soon. Nothing but gains now that I’ve sold. You’re welcome.

I always wonder about whether the top is in or not. If I was close to retirement, I would be thinking about sequence of returns risks and all that, but I am so so so far away. Although it feels weird that the market just pumps everyday, but people at the same time say the economy sucks. Those same people have huge car payments and credit card debt, so who knows.

I am early in the game, so I have automated my savings system, so it is time to just enjoy the ride and see where it takes me.

Quote
Wall Street’s soothsayers expect another year of double-digit gains after the S&P 500 posted back-to-back advances of over 20% in 2023 and 2024. The index has delivered such a rally only once, during the dot-com bubble. Households’ equity holdings as a share of total assets are at a record — and so is a percentage of Americans expecting stocks to rise in the next 12 months. Data from Bank of America show retail clients have a high chunk of their investments in equities and are taking on more risk.

“Investors seem to be shunning virtually any risk-averse strategy,” Richard Bernstein Advisors wrote in a note to clients this week.
Quote
“Anyone who thinks we are not in a highly speculative period, if not a bubble, isn’t really paying attention,” said Richard Bernstein, founder and chief investment officer at Richard Bernstein Advisors.
