I just put my sell order in (VTSAX to cash) to top up our cash reserves..

So I predict the market will tank by the close!

Why did you have to go and by the mega-lathe? Actually vti just ticked up from basically flat most of the day. This will be a truly impressive jinx with less than an hour before market close.

The top has been in all along.  You just have not reached top enlightenment to fully understand it.  You should ponder on what the sound of one top clapping is.

I have a major portion of our emergency fund in vti.   We have roof and some water damage from Hurricane IDA and we have been waiting for the roofer.  Today  I sold 40 shares sold at 241.51 that should pay our share of the damage (if the insurance estimate is correct)

My actions probably ensure that the market will melt up from here.

Good news is most of our emergency fund is still in VTI

I've been derelict with rebalancing last couple of years. Just sold > $50K in VTSAX & SWTSX since today is rebalancing day . . . also contributing to the incoming "melt up"

Since shortly after I heard the top is in, I've been riding several hundred thousand dollars worth of triple-leveraged ETFs. I goofed and bought the long ones instead of the short ones, so I'm up about $400k. Upon realizing I was beating the market by 14% YTD, and in imminent danger of the top being in, I sold some call options yesterday to exit these positions by Friday and put $4500 in my pocket.

When this information reached The Bank of England, it shocked them to the point they had to hold off on raising interest rates. They had to respect that the top was in on interest rates as well. That in turn caused the USD to rise 1.4% compared to the pound, leading to an inflow of cash into the US indices. Simultaneously, the Federal Reserve was poised to declare higher interest rates by March, but upon seeing the red flag I sent up they communicated a wait-and-see approach, causing yesterday to be the day the top was in for long-term treasury yields. Oil traders sent USO down 0.43% when they realized the top was in for demand.

Meanwhile UPRO and TQQQ zoomed to what must be their tops today, well past the strike prices on my covered calls. So I shrugged my shoulders, and traded up in strike prices, paying $0.75 per share to go up in strike prices by $1. Thus, just as I triggered the top, I am triggering the downfall, which starts tomorrow. You were warned.

I have needs. I have to pay a thing. To pay it, I sold 16 shares of a US index fund this morning for about $3000.

By all selling at once, we are jointly causing the very top of which we speak. We have found the market's enemy and it is us.

Did you know bogleheads has their own Top is In thread? It’s called “US Stocks in Freefall” and it started in August 2011 when the DJIA fell 5.6% and the S&P500 fell 6.7% after the U.S. lost its AAA credit rating. People were freaked. Google August 8, 2011 stock market to read some cool articles in the nice clean and fast-loading website formats of yesteryear. For the S&P500, that was 296% ago.

The moral of the story is: bogleheads were wrong about the top (some I’m sure sat in CDs since 2011) and thorsach has a much better track record.
