Call him a Nazi, he won't even frown
"Ha, Nazi, Schmazi" says Wernher von Braun
Don't say that he's hypocritical
Say rather that he's apolitical
"Once the rockets are up, who cares where they come down?
That's not my department" say Wernher von Braun

Brilliant song, particularly as the composer was Jewish.

On a lighter note.. I think the top is in. I mean at 4358 the S&P can't POSSIBLY go any higher!

All those days during the Great Recession, I really thought the top was in.  I kept shoveling in money, but I was certain the top was in.

Haha.. yeah me too. The way I looked at it was.. if this all goes to Hell I work forever. If I don't invest.. I'll work forever.. But maybe, just maybe it will turn out alright.

That was 3 million dollars ago..:)

At some point, the S&P 500 will be at 5000, 6000, 7000. Those of us that still need save and invest more will be pining for the days when it was only 4358. We'll certainly see some corrections and bear markets between those numbers, but we'll see them at some point.

If S&P returns 10% a year over long periods then over the next 100 years...
2021 = 4,358
2022 = 4,800
2023 = 5,300
2024 = 5,800
2025 = 6,400
2030 = 10,300
2035 = 16,600
2040 = 26,650
2045 = 43,000
2050 = 69,000
2060 = 179,000
2070 = 465,000
2080 = 1,200,300
2090 = 3,130,000
2100 = 8,115,000
2121 = 60,056,000

S&P 60,000,000 here we come :D

That doesn't add up. If the Top Is In, then the S&P will never see 5000, 6000, or 7000.

Oops. Didn't mean to contradict the prophecy.

Once you adjust for inflation that 60,000,000 S&P is probably less than what it is currently.  ie top is in.

Nazi's?.. Gotta have Nazi's, I mean where would the US Space program be without Nazi's?

After their war record was whitewashed of course!

People think their neighbors are Nazis a lot of times, but you just made me realize that my old neighbor was an actual Nazi.

Not after "operation Paperclip" he wasn't. After turning a blind eye to Jewish slaves being beaten right in front of him while building his rockets. Yes I have been to Peenemunde where there is video testimony from prisoners that left you in no doubt that VB was a Nazi pig. Of course it might ALL be Socialist propaganda as well.. hmm.

It's no accident that the first two groups of reporters who are being replaced by (rather simple) AI algorithms are the people who write stories about sports and the people who write stories about stocks.

Thatís unfortunate.

A lot of people lost their nerve here and on bogleheads last March. There was a lot of market timing chatter in both boards. I hope your co-worker gets his money back in before the market rages upward again.

That dancing in and out of the market in an attempt to only capture the upside while avoiding any possibility of seeing your investment account balances drop temporarily generally doesn't work.

I saw we had a nice little drop in the markets yesterday. I hope that holds through Thursday when my 401(k) contribution happens.

Same here, I have a chunk of money working through to my accounts to invest. That started before the recent drop and when I saw the news of the recent drop, I was like, "Welp. That's pretty good news for me." When you're looking to buy, the bottom is just a backwards top. But,

When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide
Where I stop and I turn and I go for a ride
Till I get to the bottom and I see you again

Busy around the house yesterday, had CNBC on.  I kept seeing one of the regular contributors hammering the Delta variant as being the big unknown and unaccounted-for aspect that was crashing the market.  He was too clever by half, as usual, sounding the warning about how people had been getting this whole thing wrong and there was finally a reckoning.  Hang on to your butts, it's chaos!

Same guy sat there today, mocking everyone who was selling yesterday.  He is above it all and knows the traders are just so foolish.  See?  Looky!  Here is a belabored list of 20 stocks that are up today the precise percentage they were down yesterday.  You were all fools worrying your little heads.  His tone was pedantic, smug, and utterly nauseating.

They are certain that no one keeps score of their bullshit and simply make up new headlines at any moment that they believe will make them look smart.  Good reminder it is better to leave the volume muted if that channel is on.

The EMH comic and MissNancyPryor's posts hit home for me. Back in the late 1990s I was a field tech spending lots of time in the car each day. Music radio quickly became too darn repetitive, MP3 players weren't a thing yet (much less smart phones and podcasts), and I didn't yet have a car CD changer. So I started listening to news/talk/sports radio.

Every morning they would have a stock market report of what to expect. At the end of the day, they'd report what happened which of course NEVER matched what they said in the morning.

Yet they always sounded so confident of WHY those things happened, after the fact. They actually had a few go-tos for how the day trended. Prices down because computer selling programs. Market reacted to interest rates.

I fairly quickly realized they're all clueless and full of shit.

Today I know the top is always in.

Remember when you were a kid at the pool, and you would walk up to the end of the diving board, then back up a little and take a flying leap off the high dive and into the deep end? Get your arm floaties ready for absolute free fall. Weíre on the high dive and the top is definitely in.

I find it hysterical that Jim Kramer is touted as a stock expert.    I don't know whether his picks are the worst ever, but he really screwed the pooch around the turn of the century.    I don't remember all the details but the results were gruesome.

I find it hysterical that Jim Kramer is touted as a stock expert.    I don't know whether his picks are the worst ever, but he really screwed the pooch around the turn of the century.    I don't remember all the details but the results were gruesome.

Are you serious? He's a well-known high-income financial name who still has his own featured show on a major network! He makes tons of money from the stock market!

...Oh, you mean for people who would actually follow his clown show recommendations for buying and selling stocks, don't you?

Made more money today than I lost yesterday. I thought someone said the top was in?

I was down $40k Monday.
Then up $30k Tuesday.
Now I'm up $11k today.
What kind of weird ass roller coaster is this anyway? Just keeps going up.

Kramer ran a hedge fund for 20 years and got out after the DotCom bust.  Yelling at his peers from inside a TV now is apparently a more stable source of income and notoriety.

All of the CNBC talking heads and their guests are there just to fill up air time. Financial professionals don't get their actionable intelligence from CNBC, and mom and pop missed the train for whatever these shills had to say.
