Markets are very stretched and due a correction, maybe a significant one.
I've partially hedged my portfolio by shorting S&P and FTSE100 from this level. Laugh all you want.

Based on what?

Price stretched above a long term moving average.

Details!

How large is your short position relative to your portfolio & net worth? When does it expire, strike price, what is your upside/downside risk? Curious how this is executed.

Let’s call “this level” SP500 3196.  I’m sure he’ll come back to let us know when he closes out his short position.

CAPE? P/E ratio?

If you happen to be overweight in stocks, certainly it isn't a bad time to rebalance.

I'm 60% stocks, 30% beanie babies, and 10% Topps Ken Griffey Jr. rookie cards, thanks to suggestions from this thread.

I highly recommend owning a few pogs and at least 1 decent slammer in case the dollar loses world reserve currency status.

Remember ALF?

He's back, in pog form.

Your stock allocation seem a little heavy. Better put 10% into lame 1990’s comic books too. Anything by Rob Liefeld should do.

Thankfully I didn't waste much money on his Image line up since they're all rip-offs of Marvel characters with no plot.  It was a low point for Marvel that Jim Lee had to go into business with him in order to continue doing comics.

Oh, I was going the post-apocalyptic route though...

POG dealer: "hey bro, why'd you take all my POGs bro?" ... *brandishes knife*

Me: "chill bro, this is Murica. It's just a game"

POG dealer: "nah bro... i think we definitely have a problem. I'm going to need my POGs back and I'm also gonna need yours and that slammer of yours. In fact, I may need your slamming skills too, for some future endeavors... so why don't you come with me?" ... *draws knife*

Me: "bro, I said 'chill' and easy on the knife there." ... *brandishes fully outfitted Glock 45 with laser sight, optical scope, modified 30 round magazine (yes, and in California... because none of that will matter in these times), custom grips, trigger job for easier double-taps, and 3D printed parts.*

POG dealer: "bro! sweet gun! Hey I'm late to another game but we should hang sometime!" *runs off like a wounded coyote*

Too far? Sorry, been playing too much Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Bioshock, World War Z, etc... Also, the excessive use of "bro" is because this all takes place in California.

Me: "You want your POGs back???"  Slams POGs so hard that they lodge deeply into POG dealers eyeballs.  "You can keep 'em."

POG dealer: "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

Me: "You make a terrible pupil"

POG dealer: "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

Me: "You've got to keep your eyes out for that sort of thing . . . "

POG dealer: "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

Me: "You are the weakest wink."

POG dealer: "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh"  screaming fades out as POG dealer finally succumbs to the vicious punnishment.

Crowd of observers heard to mutter something about the long foretold coming of the last of the true POGmen as you gather up your things and head off into the sunset.

I'm really not sure why you call them 'Slammers' and throw them at peoples' faces. I'm also very confused as to why you refer to each other as 'brothers' - clearly that's not the case." *while brandishing Glock 45*

... oh wait, did that ship already sail? Rough times we live in...

S&P 500, 2017 Apr 11:  2,357
S&p 500, 2019 Dec 26:  3,239

2357/3239 = 72.7%
100-72.7=27.3%

But that was THEN. Top is in now. All dollars left in the market are destined to shrivel like the leftover wrappers from a materialistic Christmas, doomed to litter the oceans in emulation of scraps of tattered plastic. Only the detritus of our overconfident spree will tell bedraggled future historians of how we met our fate.

Happy New Year!

...and more relevantly, 3239/2357=137% - up 37% plus dividends (for a total of about 45%) in less than three years.
