I saw a credit card where you get your rewards in crypto.  Seems frothy to me

Well, thatís not the most terrible way to speculate in crypto.  I wonder how itís paid out, if they have their own exchange or do they use some other exchange and how safe it is.  I have a friend that just went all-in on bitcoin, heís up like 40% and Iím worried now he thinks heís an investing genius because he parrots all the stuff that crypto pushers say.  Worried it wonít end well.

Crypto does seem genuinely frothy at this point. And it's been reliably crashing after being frothy multiple times in the recent past so I feel fairly confident in thinking that another top is near. I wonder if some puts on BTC wouldn't be in order... Can you even buy options on crypto?

I don't know if you can buy BTC options, but BlockFi will let you borrow BTC and pay them back in BTC. So in a falling market that might make sense.

I want a credit card where I buy stuff in dollars but pay them back in BTC

The idea of borrowing in BTC is interesting... Who would enforce repayment? It's not currently a critical currency to have, so if you borrowed a billion dollars worth of BTC cashed out to dollars and refused to pay it back what would the consequence be? You're banned from the exchange? As long as you paid the IRS their cut I don't think they'd object...  I suppose they might have unofficial ways of debt collecting...

It's like any other loan, right? What if I borrow your car and never give it back?

You mean, what if you borrowed my idea of a virtual 'car' (that has zero real world utility) and then didn't give it back?

Iím positive that all the people who run crypto exchanges are upstanding citizens who would never resort to extra-legal measures if someone defrauded them.

I think you guys are kind of asking the wrong question.  The real question is why would anyone loan you anything without sufficient assurances (on a risk-adjusted basis) that they will be repaid.  The answer is they won't... nobody is going to lend you $1 billion in BTC unsecured.  Maybe they would lend you a few thousand and the remedy for breaking that contract would be the same as any other breach of contract (which may or may not be collectible).

Oh and, BIT TOP IS IN

Bit Top needs more bling to truly show how unprecedented the gains could be. So stable, incredible growth, no downside possible, and when you know the top is just around the corner, sell before everyone else does. It's just a matter of reading the charts correctly and getting a clean strategy to short the bit top.

I've never seen one used in that position before... I think we're looking at these bit charts upside down! The top is still in though.

Is the top in for 2020?

70 minutes left, who can say what the future holds. Still enough time to hit both the level 1 and level 2 circuit breakers.

Although I suppose we can say with confidence at this point that the MOST the markets could fall yet in 2020 is 20% (because at that point they'd hit the level 3 circuit breaker and close down for the rest of the day).

Edit: Okay, now, with confidence, we can say that the 2020 top was in. S&P hit its highest value all year in the last 5 minutes of trading. Up 16.3% from its close on Dec 31st, 2019 (3230) in the year of a global pandemic. Who would have thunk it?

You should go back and read the comments from March on the expectations for the rest of 2020.  A lot of them did not age well.

The top was in! We called it! Based on our year to date trend we are on track for SP500 to be at 44 by the end of 2021. The mother of all bear markets is here (TMOABM).

Iím selling everything and going 100% into cryptokitties. They are a much better inflation hedge than Bitcoin because they are also kittens.

Hey! People need those bears for food up here, it's a sustainable local supply of meat, raise your own... Come to think of it, anyone who wants to take on a bear with a cape and a dagger is probably not a concern for our population. Send them up.

Update, based on todayís trend we will not be at SP500 = 44 at the end of the year. Instead we will be at (checks math) 22,002.115.

Iím rotating out of cryptokitties and into quadruple leveraged index funds. By the end of this year I will have many millions of dollars and I will buy a race car.

No, if you are fabulously wealthy you have a race car. Maybe an island would be nice too.

No, if you are fabulously wealthy you have a race car. Maybe an island would be nice too.

If you need an island, I suggest https://www.privateislandsonline.com/ as a place to start looking.

I subscribed because it's got great island photos for role playing game adventure locations.

How many adventures can you possibly set on private islands?

Only a few, but I get constant inspiration by looking at the adverts.   Plus some of them are really pretty.

Fewer than with a Nimitz class aircraft carrier, obviously.
