So glad I sold everything back in 2014!.. When is a good re-entry point?

Definitely want to hold off for a bit.  This market has nowhere to go but down.  Way down.  Way down in the hole.

I’ve coin roll hunted before, it is too much work for what you usually find.  One advantage of American currency though is you can see the copper on rim of the coins and a solid silver coin stands out like a sore thumb, it does make it fairly quick to go through the rolls, but it’s still a bunch of work re-rolling everything and returning what’s only worth face value.  I’m in Canada and its a bigger pain to coin roll hunt because both the silver and non silver coins look the same from the rim, so you have to go through everything way more thoroughly.  I’ve found its easier to just ask bank branches if they have anything old put aside, and sometimes I get lucky and find a collection that’s already sorted out from the common stuff.

Exactly, and since the guy was driving around with it in his car there was a high likelihood it could get stolen completely which means it is a huge loser move.

It could be a hobby if you were very good at getting the rest of the money back into the bank and closing the loop promptly, but compared to the gain he would have received by getting some VTSAX it is a losing proposition.

I would also bet that the guy never converted the found silver coins into that $10-20 because when you do find a real silver old coin the urge is to keep it.  Either that, or he hadn't gotten around to getting those to the silver merchant quite yet.  Lots of running around for a few bucks.

All told how much did he get paid per hour for all the extra time he spent?  Did he even make minimum wage when you consider the time he spent on dealing with the leftover change?  I bet he could have found some non-gimmicky side hustle that would have paid better less bad.

1/17/2020   and another record breaking day for NASDAQ, DOW, and SP500......

melt up or just new Tops?   Wish I knew which.  Since I don't know the future,  I'll simply nothing until payday and then buy in accordance with my asset allocation plan.

That’s funny, reminds me of a guy I used to work with some years ago.  He was a financial train-wreck, he was maybe 30, had kids with 3 different ex-girlfriends, was always broke and working entry level jobs and had terrible personal and financial habits.  One day he finished up some long rant to me about how hard his life is, and I straight up said to him “Dude, at least your life will never be boring”.

OMGWTFBBQ it keeps going up.

I actually increased stock allocation earlier this week, but again not because I thought it was a particularly good time to, but my long term plans have included increasing stock AA because I have two annuitized incomes in my not-too-distant future and have two years in cash

OK I get OMG  WTF, but what is BBQ?

I give you the TOP BBQ joint in Texas:

I hope The Great Thorstach didn't really believe his advice and put in a big short.

Have a plan.  Make sure it is conservative enough so that it will allow you to stick to the plan.  Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Yeah I think I figured out how to time the market.  Get your money in as soon as possible, and give it time to grow.  Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?!

But since it always goes up you should really use as much leverage as you can to maximize your returns! Max out any student loans you can take, maybe max out a few 0% interest for the first year credit cards? Aim for at least a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio. Not sure what could go wrong with this plan... https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5934
